Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with the Schiaparelli Lobster Dress lately. You know, the one Elsa Schiaparelli designed with Salvador Dalí? It’s iconic! I decided I had to try and recreate it, or at least my own version of it. So, here’s how that adventure went:

Getting Started
First, I dug through my closet for a plain white dress. Nothing fancy, just a simple, long column dress that would work as a base. I found one that I hadn’t worn in ages – perfect!
The Lobster
Next, the lobster. Obviously, I wasn’t going to use a real one. I thought about buying a plastic one, but then I decided to try making one myself. I grabbed some red felt, some stuffing, and some black beads for the eyes.
- I sketched out a rough lobster shape on the felt.
- Then I cut out two identical pieces.
- I sewed them together, leaving a small opening for the stuffing.
- I stuffed it until it was nice and plump, then sewed up the opening.
- I glued the black beads at head of lobster for eys.
It wasn’t perfect, but it looked pretty lobster-ish!
The Parsley
The original dress has parsley sprigs around the lobster. I considered using real parsley, but that seemed like it would wilt and get messy. So, I opted for some fake parsley I found at a craft store. Much easier!
Putting It All Together
Now for the fun part! I laid the dress out flat and positioned the lobster in the middle of the skirt, just like the original. I pinned it in place, then carefully hand-sewed it onto the dress. I made sure to use small, invisible stitches so you couldn’t see them.

Once the lobster was secure, I arranged the fake parsley sprigs around it, pinning them in place until I liked how it looked. Then, I sewed those on too.
The Final Result
And… that was it! My very own Schiaparelli-inspired Lobster Dress. It’s not an exact replica, of course, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a fun project, and now I have a totally unique dress to wear. Maybe I’ll wear it to my next dinner party… or maybe just around the house. You know, for fun.
