So this morning I was scrolling through Instagram coffee in hand when Kate Middleton’s birthday pics popped up. That blue dress? Stunning. Hair? Perfect messy waves. Figured hey why not try recreating it for my cousin’s brunch later. Grabbed my phone and started dissecting the look.
The Hair Disaster Phase
First attacked the hair since it looks effortless but nah. Plugged in my curling iron thinking “easy peasy”. Sectioned hair like tutorials show… and immediately burnt my damn finger. Swore. Grabbed oven mitts actually. Tried curling AWAY from face like Kate’s stylist probably does but got these weird springy spirals instead of soft waves. Washed everything out frustrated.

Way better. Still not palace-ready but decent enough.
The “No Makeup” Makeup Struggle
Her skin’s annoyingly perfect right? Started with glowy primer. Mixed foundation with moisturizer – looked like greasy mess. Wiped off. Used LESS product and dabbed with sponge. Bronzer? Looked dirty first swipe. Brushed most off. Kept brows natural but spent like 20 minutes trying to make them look “undone”. Pink blush on cheeks and nose bridge for that “fresh air” look she always nails.
Almost forgot the eyeliner! Did tiny wing – smudged it immediately. Used cotton swab spit to fix. Classy I know. Finished with lip balm tinted pink from strawberries because where does she even GET that perfect natural lip color?
Final Test Run
Threw on blue sundress from closet. Spritzed hair with sea salt spray upside down for volume. Checked mirror – hair half fell down. Pinned it up messy. Ran out door late.
Got zero “You look like Kate!” comments at brunch. BUT cousin did ask “Your skin looks great what filter is that?” So mission kinda accomplished? Next time just wearing baseball cap probably.
