Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little adventure with red Halloween costumes!

So, Halloween is coming, right? And every year, I’m like, “Okay, I’m gonna do something different.” But then I end up scrambling at the last minute. This year, I decided to get ahead of the game and actually plan something. And I was feeling…red. Like, a really bold, eye-catching red.
Brainstorming and Gathering Stuff
First, I brainstormed a bunch of ideas. Devil? Classic. Red Riding Hood? Cute, but maybe too common. A lobster? Okay, that one was a bit out there. I wanted something that was both recognizable and a little bit unique.
I hit up a few stores, mostly just to get inspired. I wasn’t really planning on buying a pre-made costume. I’m more of a DIY kind of guy, you know? It’s more fun, and usually cheaper, too.
- I checked out the fabric store. So many shades of red! I was getting overwhelmed.
- I looked around the local thrift shops, that place is cheap. Hoping to find some hidden gems.
- And, of course, I browsed online, just to see what other people were doing.
My DIY Journey Begins
Then the real work began. I decided that I am gonna be a Cardinal.

I found some awesome, deep red fabric at a discount store – score! It was kind of velvety, which I thought would look really rich. Then I spent like an hour trying to figure out how to make a cape. Let me tell you, draping fabric is harder than it looks! YouTube tutorials became my best friend.
I also picked up some black felt and some gold trim. I wanted to add some details to make it look a little more…fancy. I’m no sewing expert, but I can handle a needle and thread (and a hot glue gun, let’s be honest). There were definitely a few moments where I almost gave up and just bought a devil costume, but I pushed through.
The Final Touches (and a Few Mishaps)
The accessories were the fun part. I found a cheap plastic crown and spray-painted it gold. I also crafted a little staff out of a dowel rod and some cardboard. It wasn’t perfect, but it got the job done.
Oh, and there was that one time I accidentally glued my fingers together. That was fun. And the time I realized I’d cut the fabric completely wrong and had to start over. But hey, that’s part of the DIY experience, right?
The Big Reveal!
Finally, after a few late nights and a lot of trial and error, it was done! And you know what? I was actually pretty proud of it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine. And it was definitely red. Mission accomplished!

So, that’s my red Halloween costume story. It was a bit of a chaotic journey, but I had fun, and I ended up with something I was genuinely happy with. And that’s what really matters, right?
