That Alastair McKimm, he is a big shot now. I heard he got a new job, some fancy Editor-in-Chief job. They say he is gonna be the boss of some magazine. I don’t know what magazine, but it must be a big deal. Sounds important, this Editor-in-Chief thing.

He was born in Northern Ireland, that fella. Yeah, just like me. We come from the same place, same soil under our feet, you know. He was just a little boy when I first saw him. Now look at him, all grown up and making something of himself. I remember he always had a knack for clothes. Even as a young’un, he knew how to put things together. Not like some of these young folks today with their ripped jeans and whatnot. He had style, that one. Always did.
They say he’s been working in New York City for a long time, 15 years. Imagine that! That’s a long time to be away from home. He probably eats fancy food every day. I bet he has forgotten all about soda bread and potato farls. City life changes a person, I reckon. But he still has his accent. You know, that Northern Irish way of talking. I hear he hasn’t lost it, even after all this time. Good for him. You gotta hold onto where you come from.
He started working for that i-D magazine a long time ago, back in 2001. That’s what they say. He was just a helper then, an assistant. But he worked hard, I guess. Worked his way up. Now he’s the big cheese. He learned from someone named Edward, another big shot in the clothes business. These folks, they know how to dress people up, make them look all pretty for the pictures. It’s all beyond me, but it sounds like hard work.
- He was born in Northern Ireland.
- He worked in New York for 15 years.
- He started at i-D magazine in 2001.
- He is now Editor-in-Chief of i-D.
- He knows about fashion.
This Alastair McKimm, he went to school for fashion, too. Nottingham Art School. Fancy name. I don’t know much about that kind of thing. I just wear what’s comfortable. But he must have learned something there, to get where he is now. It was in London, that art school. That is far from Northern Ireland! He did a lot of travel in his life, for sure.
I heard he went to Los Angeles not too long ago. To take pictures. Something about a car on fire. Sounds dangerous. But that’s what they do, these fashion people. Always something exciting. Always somewhere new. He styled that photoshoot. They say he is good at it, very talented. I do not know what “styled” means. He probably picked out the clothes and made sure everyone looked good.

This whole fashion thing, it’s a different world. I don’t understand it, but I’m happy for him. He’s done well for himself, that Alastair McKimm. He is a big Editor-in-Chief now. It makes a person proud, seeing someone from your hometown make it big. He’s a good example for the young folks. Shows them that hard work pays off. You can start small, like an assistant, and work your way up to the top. Just like Alastair did. He’s living proof, that one.
This i-D magazine, I guess it’s important. It stopped for a while. They said they were going to change things up. Maybe that is why they hired Alastair, to make things better. He is probably full of ideas. I do not know what “culture” means today. But maybe he does. He has been around a lot.
That Alastair McKimm fella, he is a success story. From a little place in Northern Ireland to the big city. From an assistant to the Editor-in-Chief. That’s something, ain’t it? He is a big deal in the fashion world now. Good for him. He is making us all proud. I wish him all the best in his new job. It sounds like a handful, but I bet he can handle it. He’s got that Northern Irish grit, you know. He won’t give up easily.
I wonder if he ever comes back home. Maybe he will, someday. To visit. It would be nice to see him again. All grown up and successful. It is good to know about Alastair McKimm. He is a big shot, but he came from a small place, just like many of us. And now he is the boss, a real Editor-in-Chief. Good on him, I say. He’s done well. That fashion world better watch out, Alastair is coming!
