Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “guys black shorts” things all over my feed, and I was like, “What’s the big deal?” I mean, they’re just black shorts, right? But then, I decided to actually give it a shot and see what all the fuss was about. I wanted to make myself a pair, so I started there.

Finding the Right Stuff
First things first, I needed some fabric. I dug through my old stash and found some black cotton blend stuff. It wasn’t super fancy, but hey, it’s a start. I also needed some elastic for the waistband, thread, and, of course, a sewing machine. My grandma’s old machine is a beast, but it gets the job done.
Making a Mess (and a Pattern)
Next up, the pattern. I’m not a pro at this, so I just grabbed a pair of my own shorts that fit well and traced them onto some paper. I added a bit extra for seam allowances ’cause, you know, I always mess that up. It looked kinda janky, but I figured it was good enough.
Cutting and Sewing (and Praying)
Time to cut! I laid the fabric out, pinned the pattern on, and started snipping. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking, ’cause once you cut, there’s no going back. Then came the sewing. I followed the lines I traced, zig-zagged the edges to stop them from fraying (thanks, Grandma, for that tip!), and prayed the whole thing wouldn’t fall apart.
Elastic Time
The waistband was next. I measured my waist, cut the elastic a bit shorter (gotta have some snugness), and sewed it into a loop. Then, I pinned it to the inside of the shorts and stitched it on, stretching the elastic as I went. This part is always tricky, but I managed to get it done without too many curse words.

The Big Reveal
Finally, I flipped the shorts right-side out, and… they actually looked like shorts! They weren’t perfect, a little wonky here and there, but hey, I made them! I tried them on, and they fit! I did a little victory dance, ’cause, seriously, making clothes that actually fit is a big win.

So, that’s my “guys black shorts” journey. It was messy, a bit frustrating, but ultimately, pretty rewarding. I might even try making another pair, maybe with some pockets this time. Who knows?
