Okay, here’s my blog post about diving into 1920s men’s fashion. Buckle up, it’s a fun ride!

Alright, so I got this crazy idea to try and rock the 1920s men’s style for a bit. I mean, who doesn’t love those dapper dudes from the Great Gatsby era? Seemed like a fun challenge, and honestly, my current wardrobe was getting kinda boring.
First things first, I hit the research hard. I didn’t want to look like I was wearing a costume, ya know? I wanted it to be authentic-ish. I spent hours online, looking at old photos, magazine ads, anything I could find about what guys were actually wearing back then. Turns out, it’s all about the details.
What did I find out? Well, suits were HUGE, obviously. But it wasn’t just any suit. We’re talking wide-legged trousers, often cuffed at the bottom. Jackets were usually double-breasted, but single-breasted was cool too. And vests! Vests were a must. Three-piece suits were the king, no doubt.
Next up: shirts. White dress shirts were the standard, but you also saw stripes and patterns. Collars were often detachable, which is a wild concept to me. And ties! Skinny ties were NOT a thing. Think wider ties with bold patterns. Bow ties were also super popular, especially for more formal occasions.
Shoes were also key. Oxfords and wingtips were the go-to choices. And don’t forget the accessories! Hats were essential. Fedoras, flat caps, newsboy caps – you name it, they wore it. Pocket squares, tie clips, and even suspenders were all part of the package.

Okay, so armed with my newfound knowledge, I started the hunt for the right clothes. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I started with thrift stores and vintage shops. Surprisingly, I actually found some decent stuff! I snagged a pair of wide-legged trousers that fit pretty well, and an old vest that was almost perfect.
The jacket was a bit trickier. I ended up finding a relatively inexpensive double-breasted blazer online that was a good starting point. It wasn’t exactly vintage, but it had the right look. I also managed to find a couple of cool ties at an antique store. Score!
Of course, some things I had to buy new. A crisp white dress shirt was a must, and I also invested in a decent pair of oxfords. I even splurged on a fedora. I figured, if I was gonna do this, I was gonna do it right.
Putting the whole outfit together was the fun part. I ironed everything (a crucial step!), tucked in my shirt, put on the vest and jacket, and tied one of my new ties. I slipped on the oxfords and topped it all off with the fedora. I gotta admit, I looked pretty damn good. I felt like I’d stepped right out of a black and white movie.
I wore the outfit out a few times, and it was definitely a conversation starter. People were either really impressed or thought I was completely nuts. Either way, it was a blast. It made me realize how much style has changed over the years, and how cool it is to draw inspiration from the past.

Lessons learned?
- Details matter. The little things really make the outfit.
- Thrift stores are your friend. You can find some amazing hidden gems.
- Confidence is key. If you rock the look with confidence, you can pull it off.
Would I wear this outfit every day? Probably not. But it was a fun experiment, and I definitely gained a new appreciation for 1920s men’s fashion. Maybe I’ll even incorporate some of these elements into my everyday style. Who knows?
Overall, diving into this style was a blast. I learned a lot, found some cool clothes, and had some fun along the way. What started as a simple idea turned into a full-blown fashion adventure. I highly recommend giving it a try yourself! You might be surprised at what you discover.
