So, the other day, I got this idea stuck in my head, you know? I was like, I gotta try putting together one of those 80s blazer outfits. Just for kicks, see if I could pull it off without looking like I raided my dad’s old costume box.

Finding the Goods

First thing, I started rummaging through my closet. Thought I might have something stashed away. No dice. Then I remembered that little vintage shop downtown. So, off I went. Spent a good hour sifting through racks of stuff, you know how it is. And then, bam! Found this blazer. It wasn’t super crazy with the shoulder pads, but they were definitely there, making a statement.

Okay, blazer secured. Mission one, complete.

Next up, what to wear underneath? I was thinking about all those old movies and music videos. They always had those silk shirts in bright colors, or some really out-there prints. Lots of synthetic materials too, the kind that almost shined. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go that authentic, a bit much for a casual Tuesday, right?

So I decided to tone it down just a tiny bit. I found this dark, kinda silky shirt, not too flashy but it had that vibe. Tucked it in, felt pretty good.

The Bottom Half and Shoes

Then came the pants. Back then, it was all about slim to skinny jeans, usually black or light blue. I had a pair of black skinny jeans that I figured would do the trick. Pulled those on. Check.

For shoes, it had to be boots. Not chunky ones, but more like those slim profile boots. Luckily, I had a pair of simple black ankle boots that fit the bill perfectly. Didn’t want anything too distracting from the blazer, you know? The blazer was supposed to be the star of the show.

Putting It All Together

So, I got dressed. Stood in front of the mirror. Blazer on, shirt tucked, jeans snug, boots looking sharp. I gotta say, it felt pretty cool. It’s a strong look, no doubt about it. You kinda have to walk a certain way when you’re wearing an 80s blazer, shoulders back, a bit of an attitude. Not a bad attitude, just… confident.

I actually wore it out to grab some coffee. Got a couple of looks, mostly curious ones, I think. One older lady even gave me a smile and a nod. Maybe it reminded her of her younger days. Who knows? It was fun, though. It’s funny how clothes can change how you feel, even just for a little bit.

It’s not something I’d wear every day, for sure. That whole era, man, they were committed to their fashion. Today, we just pick and choose, which is probably for the best. Can you imagine wearing shoulder pads to the grocery store all the time? But for a day, yeah, it was a good experiment. Felt like I stepped out of a time machine, but in a good way.

So, that was my adventure into the world of the 80s blazer. Definitely a conversation starter, and honestly, kinda empowering. Might have to bust it out again sometime when I’m feeling bold.
