Alright, so the other day I got this urge, you know? To sort through some old boxes I’ve had tucked away in the attic for ages. Figured it was time. And what do I find in one of them? A whole load of clothes from around 2006. Seriously, a blast from the past.

Digging In
So, I pulled the box out, dusted it off. It was one of those big plastic storage ones. Popped the lid, and wow. The smell wasn’t too bad, thankfully. But the styles! Man, it hit me. I started pulling things out, one by one. A bunch of t-shirts, mostly. You know the kind, with those bold graphics or weird slogans that seemed cool back then.
Then there were the jeans. Oh, the jeans. I remember thinking I was the bee’s knees in some of these. Lower rise than I’d ever wear now, that’s for sure. And some had that pre-distressed look, or maybe a bit of a flare at the bottom. Wild.
My Process of Going Through Them
First thing I did was lay everything out on the spare bed. Made quite a pile. I decided to go through each item properly.
- Inspection: I checked for any major damage. Moths, stains that had set in, that sort of thing. Some stuff was surprisingly okay. Other bits? Not so much. A couple of t-shirts were pretty faded.
- The Try-On: This was the funny part. I actually tried some of it on. For a laugh, mostly. Let me tell you, things fit differently now! Or maybe I fit differently in them. Those jeans? Yeah, a bit snug. And the t-shirts, some were way shorter than I remembered.
- Nostalgia Trip: Each piece kind of brought back a memory. This one shirt, I remembered wearing it to a specific concert. Another pair of cargo shorts (yes, cargo shorts!) reminded me of a summer holiday. It was like flipping through an old photo album, but with clothes.
What I Noticed About 2006 Styles
Looking at it all laid out, it was a real snapshot of that time. Layering was big, I remember. I found a few thin, long-sleeved tops that were definitely meant to go under a t-shirt. And the colors! Some bright, some a bit more muted but with those specific early 2000s tones.

There was this one hoodie, I practically lived in it. It was a bit battered, but still had that comfy feel. Amazing how fabric can hold onto memories, or at least the feeling of them.
The Big Sort-Out
After the trip down memory lane, and the slightly embarrassing try-on session, I had to decide what to do with it all. I couldn’t just stuff it back in the box, that defeated the whole purpose of clearing out.
So, I made three piles:
- Keep: Just a couple of things. The hoodie, for sentimental reasons. Maybe one t-shirt that wasn’t too outrageous and still fit okay. You never know, right? Retro chic? Probably not, but still.
- Donate: Most of it went here. Clothes that were still in decent condition but that I’d never wear again. Hopefully, someone else can get some use out of them.
- Toss: Anything that was properly worn out, stained beyond saving, or just too far gone. Not much, thankfully, but a few items had seen better days.
Final Thoughts on the 2006 Wardrobe
It was actually a pretty fun afternoon. A bit of work, sure, but mostly it was interesting to see how much my style has changed. And how fashion trends come and go. Some of those 2006 clothes made me chuckle, others made me a bit nostalgic.

It’s funny, you think you’ll keep things forever, but then you look back and wonder, “What was I thinking?” But hey, that’s part of the journey, isn’t it? Glad I did it. The attic feels a bit lighter, and I got a good story out of it, looking back at my 2006 clothes.
