Okay, so I got this wild hair to try and recreate Dolly Parton’s iconic 70s look. I’ve always been mesmerized by her big hair, bold makeup, and that undeniable sparkle. Figured, why not give it a shot?

The Hair
First things first, the hair. Man, that was a challenge! I don’t naturally have Dolly-level volume, so I knew I needed some help.
- Started by teasing my hair like crazy. I mean, backcombing until my arms were sore.
- Then, I curled everything with a small-barrel curling iron. Tighter the curl, the better, I figured.
- Lots and lots of hairspray. Seriously, I think I went through half a can.
- Finally put on a wig to make my hair bigger.
The Makeup
Next up, the makeup. Dolly’s 70s look was all about being bold and glamorous.
- I slapped on a full-coverage foundation, a shade or two lighter than my natural skin tone.
- Contoured my face with my makeup skill.
- Went heavy on the blue eyeshadow. Like, really heavy. All over the lid, up to the brow bone.
- Thick, winged eyeliner. The kind that could cut a man.
- Drew the fake lower lashes with my eyeliner.
- Applied a few coats of super black, volumizing mascara.
- Overlined my lips with a bright red lip liner and filled them in with a matching lipstick.
- And of course, the beauty mark! A little dot above my lip with a brown eyeliner pencil.
The Outfit
Now for the outfit. I didn’t have anything quite as flashy as Dolly’s custom-made numbers, but I did my best with what I had in my closet and what I could find at the thrift store.
- Found a pair of high-waisted, bell-bottom jeans. The wider the flare, the better.
- Paired it with a fitted, sparkly top. Think sequins, glitter, anything that caught the light.
- Added a pair of platform shoes. Gotta get that extra height!
- And for the finishing touch, some big, dangly earrings and a whole lot of confidence.
I gotta say, transforming myself into a 70s Dolly Parton was a blast. It was definitely out of my comfort zone, but it was fun to embrace a different style and channel my inner country queen. Would I wear this look to the grocery store? Probably not. But for a themed party or just a fun night in, it was perfect. I felt fabulous, and that’s all that matters, right?
