## My Chanel Naomi Campbell Moment (and How I Almost Messed It Up)
Alright, so I finally bit the bullet and tried to recreate that iconic Chanel Naomi Campbell runway moment. You know the one, the all-white look, the attitude, the everything. It’s been on my mood board forever, and I figured, why not? Time to stop pinning and start doing.
First things first, finding the right inspo pics. I spent a good hour scrolling through old runway shows, trying to nail down the exact outfit details. There are so many variations! I ended up focusing on the 1991 collection, seemed like the purest form of the Campbell magic.
Then came the sourcing. This was the tricky part. I wasn’t about to drop a fortune on actual Chanel (lol, maybe someday!). The goal was “inspired by,” not a replica. I hit up a bunch of thrift stores, online resale sites, and even raided my own closet. Found a killer white blazer at a vintage shop – score! It needed a little tailoring, but nothing too drastic. Spent like, 20 bucks. Seriously.
Next, I needed the dress. I tried a few different styles.
- Initially thought of a form-fitting white mini dress.
- Then I considered a flowy, almost slip dress vibe.
- Finally settled on a simple, ivory-colored midi dress from ASOS. It was on sale, comfortable, and had the right kind of understated elegance.
Shoes were a pain. Naomi wore killer heels, obviously. I’m not exactly a heel person, so I compromised. Found some white pointed-toe pumps on clearance at Target. They weren’t perfect, but they gave me enough height without making me want to cry after five minutes. I practiced walking in them around the house for a few days, because looking clumsy was not the goal here.
Makeup was next. I kept it pretty simple – a smoky eye, nude lip, and a healthy dose of bronzer. I watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials beforehand, focusing on the “90s supermodel” look. Let me tell you, contouring is a skill. I felt like I was painting my face, not just applying makeup. Almost looked like Mimi Bobeck!
The biggest challenge? The hair. Naomi has amazing hair, naturally. I, on the other hand, have…well, let’s just say it requires some effort. I went for a sleek, high ponytail. Used a ton of hairspray and gel to keep it in place. It looked good from the front, but the back was a bit of a mess. I should have watched more tutorials.
Finally, the shoot itself. Enlisted my friend to take some photos in a park. We tried to recreate some of the iconic runway poses. Let’s just say I’m no Naomi Campbell. I felt a little awkward, but I tried to channel her confidence. Fake it ’til you make it, right?
And here’s where I almost screwed it up: editing. I initially went way overboard with the filters. Made myself look like a plastic doll. Realized that wasn’t the vibe at all. So I toned it down, focusing on enhancing the natural light and shadows. Less is more, people!
In the end, did I nail the Chanel Naomi Campbell look? Probably not. But I had a blast trying. It was a fun creative project, and I learned a lot about myself (and the importance of good hair tutorials). Plus, I now have a killer white blazer in my wardrobe. Win-win!
