Okay, so I’ve been eyeing the Peak Design Everyday Backpack for a while, always hesitant about pulling the trigger. But then, I saw this “Luigi” setup – basically a clever way to organize camera gear inside – and it totally pushed me over the edge. Here’s how I went about it.

First, I grabbed the 20L Peak Design Everyday Backpack. I went with the black one, because, well, it’s classic. I already have some small camera cubes, the kind you use to divide up lenses and bodies. I make sure that i already have three of them from previous bags.

The “Luigi” Part

This is where the magic happens. Instead of just throwing everything into the backpack, the Luigi idea is about creating levels of organization.

  • Bottom Layer: I put my biggest camera cube at the very bottom. This holds my main camera body with a lens attached. I use a Sony a7iii with 24-70mm, so it fits snugly.
  • Middle Layer: On top of that, I stacked another camera cube. This one holds my other frequently used lenses, like a wide-angle and a prime.
  • Top Layer:
    • This is the cool part. At the very top of the bag, I have a space for things I need quick access like my headphones, a small notebook, pens, and some snacks.

Now, the Peak Design backpack has these cool side access zippers. With the Luigi setup, I can swing the bag around, unzip the side, and grab exactly what I need without unpacking the whole thing. The bottom zipper gives me my main camera, the middle one gives me my other lenses. I added another small cube by using peak design’s divider.

For smaller stuff like batteries, memory cards, and cables, I use the various pockets inside the backpack. Peak Design has tons of those, so it’s pretty easy to keep things tidy. For example, I put the batteries and charger inside the top layer of the bag.

I took this setup out for a spin last weekend on a photowalk, and it worked like a charm. I was able to switch lenses quickly, grab my camera without fuss, and I never felt like I was digging around in a bottomless pit. Also, it is a backpack, so I could take it everywhere without hassle.

Honestly, I’m pretty stoked about this. It’s made my photo outings way more efficient, and I feel like I’m spending less time fiddling with gear and more time actually shooting. I’m so happy I finally did it!
