Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of Louisa Ballou. I’d seen the name pop up a few times, mostly on Instagram and stuff, and I was really digging the vibe, you know? All those bright colors, bold prints, and that kinda beachy, almost rebellious feel. So, I thought, “Let’s see what this is all about!”

Getting Started
First things first, I just started Googling. You know, the usual – “Louisa Ballou,” “Louisa Ballou clothing,” “Louisa Ballou swimwear.” Just trying to get a feel for the brand and see where I could actually buy some pieces. I wanted to see the whole collection and get my options.
I spent a good chunk of time just browsing. Looking at all the different pieces. I’d seen some influencers wearing it so i had a place to start.
Deep Dive
After getting a good look at the clothes, I wanted to know more about Louisa Ballou, the person. Who is she? Where’s she from? What’s her story? So I started looking for interviews, articles, anything that would give me some background. Turns out she is a Central Saint Martins grad, how cool.
Making it Happen
This part took a little while.I looked closer at how they are made. The construction, I noticed some interesting details. The way the seams are finished, the cuts, the hardware. So, I decided to start thinking about what I could make, a sort of inspired project. I have my notes with my materials, and details to achieve it!
- Fabric research: I’m gonna need the right fabric. Something that can hold those bold prints and has that slinky, swimwear-ish feel.
- Pattern Play: I might need to start with some simple patterns and then get creative with alterations.
- Print Power: Thinking about how to create or the colors to use and the pallette.
I took pictures during the process, the design, cut, and all.

It took me almost the whole day to get it right, since it was my first time trying. The process was fun, and I’m glad I made it!
So yeah, that was my Louisa Ballou day. From total newbie to, well, maybe not an expert, but definitely someone who gets the brand a little better and has a new creative project to tackle. It’s always fun to find new inspiration and see where it takes you, right?
