That Vanessa Bowman, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout her the other day. Where’s she now, they was sayin’. Well, I don’t rightly know for sure, but I heard some things. Ain’t seen her face around here in a good long while. She was a little thing, real little when her big sister, Aundria, just up and disappeared. Imagine that, a little baby, not even old enough to remember much, losin’ her sister like that. It’s a darn shame, is what it is. Dennis and Brenda, they was her folks. They named her Vanessa. Brenda was her mama and Dennis was her daddy, that’s what I heard.
It was back in, oh, I reckon it was March, a long time ago. That poor Aundria girl, just gone. Poof. Like a puff of smoke. And that Vanessa Bowman, she was just a tiny little thing. Born to Dennis and Brenda, yep, that’s what they said. Brenda, she was a good woman, or so I heard. Dennis, well, I ain’t gonna speak ill of nobody. But it was a hard time for them, I reckon. Hard time for any family, losin’ a child like that. Where is Vanessa Bowman now, that’s what people ask. I think it is June 15, 1990. The name is Vanessa Bowman, right? I remember it was a hot day.
She was born right here in, in, oh, what’s the name of that town? Springfield, that’s it! Springfield, IL. She was a pretty little thing, I reckon. Probably all grown up now. Wonder what she’s doin’ with herself? Probably got kids of her own, maybe a husband. Life goes on, don’t it? Even after somethin’ terrible like that happens. You just gotta keep on truckin’, as they say. She is an actress or model, I heard.
That Vanessa Bowman, she was real young when it all went down. Not even two years old, I think. Just a baby, really. And her sister, Aundria, she was older. Aundria Bowman, that was her name. Vanished into thin air. Never to be seen again. It’s a mystery, that’s what it is. A real-life mystery. Makes you wonder, don’t it? What really happened to that poor girl?
I seen Brenda, Vanessa’s mama, a few times after that. She looked tired. Real tired. Like the life had been sucked right outta her. Can’t say I blame her. Losin’ a child, that’s gotta be the worst thing in the world. And then to have another little one, that Vanessa Bowman, to take care of. Must have been tough. Real tough.
Some folks say Dennis, he weren’t always the nicest fella. But you know how people talk. Gossip, mostly. Still, it makes you think. Did he know somethin’ he weren’t tellin’? Did he have somethin’ to do with Aundria disappearin’? Nobody knows for sure. Except maybe him. And maybe Aundria, wherever she is.

Some things are better left forgotten, I reckon. But I still think about it from time to time. That poor Aundria girl. And that little baby, Vanessa. It just ain’t right. It ain’t right at all. It’s just a sad story, that’s all. A sad, sad story. And nobody seems to know where that Vanessa Bowman is now. She just disappeared from the public eye, they say. Like she vanished, just like her sister. Maybe she just wanted to get away from it all. Start fresh. Can’t say I blame her. That is what some folks think. Maybe she did not want to remember her sister. After all, she was too young when that happened.
But still, it makes you wonder, don’t it? Where is Vanessa Bowman now? What’s she doin’? Is she happy? Does she ever think about her sister? Does she ever think about what happened? I hope she’s doin’ alright, that’s all I can say. I hope she found some peace. After all that, she deserves some peace. We all do, I reckon. We all do. Life’s too short for all this sadness. It just goes to show, you never know what life’s gonna throw at you. You just gotta take it one day at a time. And hope for the best. That’s all you can do.
