Okay, so I got this idea stuck in my head, right? Wanted to capture that look, you know, the vibe of women back in the 70s. Not the super glam disco stuff necessarily, but more the everyday feel. Seemed like a cool little project to mess around with.

Getting Started
First thing I did was just kinda browse around. Dug through some old family photos, though there weren’t many that fit the bill. Then spent a good chunk of time scrolling online, looking at old magazine pictures, movie stills, that sort of thing. Just trying to soak up the general atmosphere – the hairstyles, the clothes, the makeup, even the way photos looked back then, kinda grainy sometimes.
I wasn’t aiming for historical perfection, more like getting the essence. You know, bell bottoms, earthy tones, maybe some specific patterns. And the hair! Feathered hair, center parts, big sunglasses. That was key.
Playing with Tools
Then I started actually trying to make something. I’ve been messing with some AI image stuff lately, so I figured I’d give that a shot. Fired it up and started typing in descriptions. This part took ages. Getting the prompts right was a real pain. Sometimes it spat out stuff that looked totally wrong, like way too modern or just weird.
- Tried describing the clothes: “Woman in brown corduroy bell bottoms, patterned shirt…”
- Tried focusing on the hair: “Feathered blonde hair, center part, 70s style…”
- Tried setting the scene: “Vintage photo look, grainy, warm tones…”
It was a lot of trial and error. Generated tons of images. Most were junk, honestly. But slowly, some started looking kinda right. Had to keep tweaking the words, adding negative prompts to tell it what not to do, like ‘no modern phones’ or ‘no perfect skin’. You learn pretty quick what works and what doesn’t.
Refining and Finishing Up
Once I had a batch that felt closer, I started sorting through them. Picked out the ones that really had that specific feel I was chasing. It wasn’t just about the clothes or hair, but the mood too. Some just felt more authentic, you know?

Did a little bit of editing on the ones I selected. Nothing major. Just maybe adjusting the colors slightly to get that warmer, slightly faded look you see in old photos. Added a bit of grain effect here and there using some basic photo software I have. Didn’t want them looking too crisp or digital. The goal was that slightly imperfect, film-like quality.
Took longer than I thought it would, mostly because getting the AI to understand the specific nuances of a decade’s vibe isn’t straightforward. It’s good with objects, less so with feelings, I guess. But yeah, eventually got a set of images that I felt pretty decent about. They capture that specific look I was going for, more or less. It was a fun little exercise, figuring out how to translate an idea into actual pictures using these new tools. Definitely learned a bit along the way. So, yeah, that’s how I spent my time on this one.
