Alright, so I wanted to tell you about this little thing I was working on, this “Audrey and Sadie” project. It wasn’t supposed to be a big deal, really. Just a little something to keep my hands busy, you know? Maybe a small animated scene, or a super simple interactive story. That was the plan, anyway.

Getting Started with Audrey and Sadie

So, I had this vision. Audrey, a bit curious, always poking around. Sadie, more reserved, kinda thoughtful. I figured, how hard could it be to make them interact a bit on screen? I thought I’d use some basic animation software I had lying around. Looked easy enough in the tutorials, famous last words, right?

I started sketching them out first. Spent a good afternoon on that. Felt pretty good, actually. Got their looks down, more or less. Audrey with her messy hair, Sadie with her glasses. Then came the part where I had to bring them to life, or at least, make them move a tiny bit.

The Tools and The Troubles

This is where things started to get… well, annoying. The software I picked, which I won’t name because I’m trying to be nice, just wasn’t clicking with me. Everything felt clunky. I wanted Audrey to just, like, walk over to a thing and pick it up. Simple, right? Nope.

  • Getting the walk cycle to look even remotely natural? Nightmare. She looked like she was wading through treacle.
  • Then, making her hand actually connect with the object? Hours. I swear, hours just on that.
  • And Sadie was supposed to react, maybe raise an eyebrow. Even that felt like rocket science.

I spent a whole weekend just fighting with the interface, with timelines that kept jumping around, and keyframes that seemed to have a mind of their own. Honestly, it felt like I was spending more time trying to understand the tool than actually creating anything. I even thought about switching tools, but then I’d have to learn a whole new thing, and I was already invested, you know?

There were moments I just wanted to scrap the whole thing. Just Audrey standing there, Sadie next to her, both frozen. That would have been an achievement at some points.

Little Wins and Where It’s At Now

Okay, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. I did manage to get Audrey to take a few steps that didn’t look completely ridiculous. And Sadie? She can blink. Yes, a blink! It took me an embarrassing amount of time, but she blinks, and it’s… okay.

I learned a lot, mostly about my own patience, or lack thereof. And about how sometimes the simplest ideas can get super complicated when you actually try to execute them. It’s one thing to imagine Audrey and Sadie doing cool stuff, and a whole other thing to make the pixels on a screen agree with you.

So, “Audrey and Sadie” isn’t quite the masterpiece I vaguely hoped it might be. It’s more like a collection of slightly awkward movements and a testament to stubbornness. I haven’t given up entirely. I poke at it now and then. Maybe one day Audrey will actually pick up that thing, and Sadie will do more than just blink. We’ll see. For now, it’s a “work in progress,” and a reminder that practice is, well, practice. Sometimes it’s smooth, sometimes it’s like pulling teeth.

That’s the story of my little adventure with them. Just thought I’d share how these “simple” projects can go sometimes. It’s all part of the process, I guess.
