So, I got caught up in that whole Vetements wave a while back. You know, seeing those super oversized shirts everywhere online, looking all edgy and cool. I thought, yeah, I gotta get that look. That proper streetwear thing everyone was talking about. Seemed like the missing piece, you know?

Getting my hands on one was the first mission. Looked around online, and wow, the prices were just nuts. Seriously, for a t-shirt? Anyway, I kept digging. Found one that wasn’t brand new, maybe worn once or twice, on some site I hadn’t used before. Hesitated for a bit, looking at my bank account, but then just went for it. Clicked buy. Felt kinda crazy spending that much, honestly.

Then the wait began. Felt like ages. Finally, this big box shows up. Open it up, and there it is. And man, when I say oversized, I mean HUGE. Like, the sleeves practically came down to my knees. The cotton felt thick, decent quality, I guess, but nothing mind-blowing.

Putting it to the test

First time wearing it out? Felt kinda weird. Like, super self-conscious. People definitely looked, but I couldn’t tell if they thought it was cool or if I just looked like I was drowning in fabric. Tried styling it like I saw online:

  • Tucked in weirdly
  • With skinny jeans (looked unbalanced)
  • With baggy pants (just looked… big all over)

It wasn’t effortless, that’s for sure. You really had to think about how to wear it so it didn’t look like a mistake. It wasn’t just “throw on and achieve streetwear aesthetic” like I imagined. More like work.

Then comes the reality check. Went to hang out with some friends, super casual thing. And wouldn’t you know it, five minutes in, I spill coffee right down the front. Classic. Got home, checked the label – wash cold, gentle cycle, all that jazz. Did exactly what it said.

Pulled it out of the wash, and it just looked… deflated. Kinda lost that stiff shape it had. Still huge, obviously, but sadder. And the coffee stain? Still faintly there. For a shirt that cost that much? Come on. That really got me thinking. Was I paying for the cotton? The design? Or just the name printed on it? Felt pretty dumb, spending all that cash on something so… fragile, I guess?

So, yeah. That Vetements shirt. It’s still here, hanging in the back of my closet. Don’t really reach for it anymore. It’s kinda become this reminder about hype, you know? And chasing after a certain look pushed by brands. Learned my lesson, sort of. Now I just stick to stuff that’s comfy and doesn’t make me anxious about spilling stuff on it. Way less hassle.
