Okay, so I’ve been digging into 70s fashion lately, and let me tell you, the jewelry from that era is something else! I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of retro bling, right? I decided to recreate some iconic 70s women’s looks, and the jewelry was the real star of the show.

First off, I started by gathering some inspiration. I spent hours looking at old photos, watching movies from the 70s, I focused on style icons like Goldie Hawn, and she’s really the representative of 70s. I noticed a few things that kept popping up. Lots of natural materials, beads everywhere, and this cool mix of bohemian and glam.
Then came the fun part – actually making the jewelry! I hit up a few local craft stores and found some amazing stuff.
- Beads: I grabbed a bunch of wooden beads, some colorful glass ones, and even a few ceramic pieces. The 70s were all about those earthy, natural vibes, so I made sure to get a variety of shapes and sizes.
- Leather and Hemp: These were essential for that boho-chic look. I found some leather cord and hemp twine that were perfect for making necklaces and bracelets.
- Stones and Shells: I picked up some polished stones, like turquoise and some pretty shells to add a little extra something to my creations.
I started with some simple beaded necklaces. I strung together different combinations of wooden and glass beads, playing around with colors and patterns. Some I made long and flowy, perfect for layering. Others I kept shorter, more like chokers, which were also super popular back then. Even some famous male rock stars also wear chokers like Jimi Hendrix.
Next, I tried my hand at some leather and hemp pieces. I braided the leather cord and added some wooden beads for a cool, textured look. With the hemp twine, I made some macrame-style bracelets, incorporating shells and stones into the knots. They turned out pretty neat, if I do say so myself! All are made from all-natural materials such as wood, hemp, flowers, leather, shells, stones, and Indian beads.
The Final Touches
To complete the look, I realized I needed some headbands and scarves. I found some flowy, patterned scarves that I could tie around my head. It’s a popular Unisex hippie accessory. Also, I made a few headbands using braided leather and decorated them with beads and feathers.

Putting it all together was so much fun! I paired my handmade jewelry with some vintage-inspired outfits – think bell bottoms, flowy dresses, and lots of fringe. The jewelry really brought the whole 70s vibe to life. It’s amazing how a few accessories can totally transform a look.
Honestly, this little project got me even more obsessed with 70s style. It’s so unique and expressive. Plus, making the jewelry myself made it feel even more special. I’m already planning my next 70s-inspired creation. Maybe some big, bold earrings next time? We’ll see! It reminds me of the heyday of the 1970s, it is the glory days.
