Alright, so February rolled around again, and you know what that means – trying to figure out what on earth to wear. It’s always a bit of a tricky month, isn’t it? Still chilly, sometimes properly cold, but you’re kind of over the heavy winter gear. At least, I am.

My Starting Point: The Closet Dive
First thing I did, as usual, was stare into my closet. Just stood there for a bit, hoping inspiration would strike. Then I started pulling things out. Sweaters, mostly. Some jeans, a couple of warmer trousers. I laid a few bits on the bed, trying to see what might work together. It’s not like I buy a whole new wardrobe every season, so it’s about making what I’ve got work for this in-between weather.
I found a couple of long-sleeved tops that I’d almost forgotten about. Good for layering, I thought. That’s always the key for February, isn’t it? Layering. Because one minute you’re freezing waiting for the bus, the next you’re too warm in the office or the shop.
The Actual Process: Trial and Error
So, I started experimenting a bit. I tried a thinner knit with a thicker cardigan over it. That felt pretty good. Comfortable, not too bulky. I also made sure my trusty waterproof jacket was easy to grab. February can be wet, and there’s nothing worse than getting caught in a cold rain.
Footwear was another consideration. Still a bit early for lighter shoes, for me anyway. So, my comfortable boots were definitely staying in rotation. Warm socks are a must, too. Simple things, but they make a difference.
I focused on a few core outfits, really. I’m not one for planning out a whole month, but I like to have a few go-to combinations. Here’s basically what I settled on for most days:

- A comfortable pair of jeans or some smart-ish dark trousers.
- A long-sleeved t-shirt or a thin-ish jumper.
- A slightly heavier cardigan or a zip-up fleece that I could easily take off.
- And then my main coat, usually the waterproof one unless it was exceptionally cold, then I’d grab my warmer puffer.
What I Ended Up Wearing (Mostly)
Honestly, a lot of it was about comfort and practicality. I did try to add a bit of color with a scarf or maybe a brighter top on days when the sun actually showed its face. It just helps lift the spirits a bit when it’s still mostly grey outside.
I didn’t really buy anything new specifically for February. I tried to just use what I had. Sometimes I’d look at an outfit and think, “Meh, it’s alright,” and that was good enough. It doesn’t have to be a fashion show every day, especially when you’re just trying to stay warm and dry.
There was one day I got it wrong, wore a lighter jacket than I should have. Regretted that pretty quickly when the wind picked up! But mostly, sticking to layers and sensible choices worked out fine. It’s about being prepared for whatever the day throws at you, weather-wise.
So yeah, that was my February outfit journey. Nothing groundbreaking, just keeping it real and making do. March will probably be more of the same, just hopefully with a few more glimpses of spring!
