Okay, so I saw these “thong jeans” making the rounds online and thought, “No way, I gotta try this.” I mean, it’s basically denim underwear, right? Curiosity got the best of me. So, I started by grabbing an old pair of jeans I didn’t really wear anymore. You know, the ones that are kinda faded and have a hole or two? Perfect.
Getting Started
First, I laid the jeans out flat on my work table. I took a good look at them, trying to figure out where to even begin. I grabbed some chalk – the kind you use for sewing – and started marking. Basically, I drew a rough outline of a thong shape onto the jeans, using the back pockets as kind of a guide. It looked super weird, but hey, that’s the point, right?
- Find old jeans: Essential first step, don’t ruin your good ones!
- Mark with chalk: This lets you see what you’re doing before you commit.
The Cutting Begins
Then came the scary part – cutting! I took my fabric scissors (super important, regular scissors will just shred the denim) and slowly started cutting along the chalk lines. It was a bit nerve-wracking, I’m not gonna lie. I kept thinking, “What if I mess this up completely?” But I pushed through. I cut away most of the legs, leaving just the waistband, the zipper area, and the back pockets connected by, well, not much.
Shaping and Refining
Once I had the basic thong shape, I tried them on. Okay, it looked ridiculous, but in a surprisingly… interesting way? I noticed some areas were a bit too wide, some were uneven, so I went back to the table. I trimmed and shaped the denim, bit by bit, trying them on again and again until I got something that resembled a thong. It was a lot of trial and error, honestly.
I did try to fray the edges on purpose. I am not sure it’s a good look for me.
The Final Product (and Verdict)
Finally, I had my “thong jeans.” Did I wear them out? Of course not. Were they comfortable? Absolutely not. Was it a fun little DIY project? 100%. Would I recommend it? Maybe, if you’re bored and have some old jeans you’re willing to sacrifice to the fashion gods. It’s definitely a conversation starter, if nothing else!
