My Own Little Skinny Jean Experiment
So, I kept hearing this buzz, you know? People asking, “are skinny jeans back?” Seemed kinda funny to me, ’cause I really shoved mine way back in the closet ages ago. Thought I was done with ’em for good. But the chatter got me curious.
First thing I did, I went on a mission into the depths of my wardrobe. Took some real digging, past all the comfy, baggy stuff I live in now. And bam, there they were. My old faithful (or maybe not so faithful) black skinny jeans. Looked smaller than I remembered.
Alright, moment of truth. I decided to actually try putting them on. Man, it was a struggle. Felt like I was wrestling an octopus. Hopped around a bit, did that weird wiggle dance you do to get tight pants up. Finally got ’em buttoned. Stood there for a second. Felt… tight. Really tight. Like, circulation-cutting-off tight. Remembered instantly why I ditched them. Comfort, man, comfort is king these days.
But I thought, okay, let’s give it a proper go. Wore them around the house for maybe an hour. Did some chores, walked up and down the stairs. Everything felt kinda restricted. Sitting down wasn’t exactly relaxing either. Couldn’t wait to peel them off, honestly.
Out in the Wild: The Observation Phase
Next step, I needed some field research. Didn’t wear the skinny jeans out – no way, not after that trial run. But I made a point to really look around the next few times I went out. Went to the mall, grabbed coffee, just people-watched.
Here’s what I saw:
- Lots and lots of straight-leg jeans.
- Plenty of wide-leg pants, cargo pants too.
- Some flare styles, definitely seeing those around.
- Baggy jeans? Everywhere.
Did I see skinny jeans? Barely. Saw maybe one or two younger folks rocking them, looked kinda styled, maybe intentionally retro? But overwhelmingly, the vibe was looser, more relaxed. The skinny silhouette just wasn’t the dominant look, not from what I could tell on my little scouting trips.
So, based on my own little experiment – the uncomfortable try-on session and my people-watching – my personal verdict? Nah. Not for me, anyway. And didn’t seem like they were making a massive comeback out there either. Maybe they never fully disappear, some people always wear what they like, which is cool. But that chokehold they had on fashion? Feels like that’s definitely over. I’m sticking with my comfy pants, no question. Those skinny jeans are going back into deep storage. Maybe forever this time.
