Okay, so, I saw Taylor Swift rocking this super cool watch necklace at the Grammys the other day, and I just had to try making one myself. I mean, who wouldn’t want to copy that look, right? It was a vintage watch turned into a choker, pretty neat.
First, I started looking around my house for some stuff I could use. I had an old watch that I didn’t wear anymore, it was just sitting in a drawer. It was a bit dusty, but it still worked. The brand was some unknown name, nothing fancy like the Concord watch Taylor had. But hey, it’s a start, yeah?
Then, I needed something to make it into a necklace. I remembered I had a bunch of old jewelry-making stuff from when I was a kid. So, I dug out this box and found some black stones. They were different shapes, kind of like the ones on Taylor’s necklace, though hers were probably real diamonds. Mine? Not so much.
The next step was to take apart the watch. Now, I’m no expert at this, so I just grabbed a small screwdriver and started poking around. It took a bit of effort, but I managed to get the straps off. There were these tiny screws, I almost lost them a couple of times, haha.
- Get the watch ready: I cleaned the watch face with a soft cloth, just to make it a little shiny.
- Arrange the stones: I laid out the black stones on my table and tried to arrange them in a way that looked good. It was kind of like a puzzle.
- Attach the stones: This was the tricky part. I used some strong glue that I found in my toolbox. I put a little bit of glue on each stone and stuck them around the watch face. It was a bit messy, but I think I did okay.
After the glue dried, I attached a simple black string that I also found in my jewelry box. And there it was, my very own DIY Taylor Swift-inspired watch necklace!
It’s not as glamorous as Taylor’s, obviously. Hers was made by some fancy jeweler, Lorraine Schwartz, and had like 300 carats of diamonds. But, you know, for something I just threw together with stuff I had lying around, it’s pretty cool, right? I wore it out the other day, and a couple of people even asked me where I got it!

I gotta say, it turned out better than I expected. Sure, it’s a bit rough around the edges, and the stones aren’t exactly high-quality. But it’s got that whole vintage vibe going on, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. I’m thinking of making more of these, maybe with different colored stones or different watch faces. It’s a cool way to recycle old stuff and create something new, don’t you think?
