I got this urge to try an old-fashioned Edwardian hairdo on myself. Saw some vintage photos somewhere, and thought, “Hey, why not? I’m a beginner, so I’ll keep it simple and quick.”
First off, I washed my hair in the sink. Didn’t bother with fancy shampoo, just used my regular stuff. After that, I towel-dried it rough, like squeezing it hard to get the water out. It always gets tangly, so I grabbed my brush and pulled through the knots. Took a few minutes ’cause my hair gets stubborn.
Then, I set up a chair near the mirror. Started parting my hair right down the middle – just ran my fingers through to make a straight line. Felt weird at first, but I kept going. Next, I took a small section from the front on each side and twisted them backward. Kinda like making two little ropes. Wrapped those around behind my head and pinned them with bobby pins. Had to jab ’em in hard ’cause my hair slips out easy. Messed up a couple times, had to redo the pins.
For the rest, I gathered all the hair at the nape of my neck. Didn’t worry about being perfect; just scooped it up into a loose bun. Twisted it around itself and stabbed more bobby pins all over to hold it. It looked lumpy and uneven, like a bird’s nest. But I figured, “That’s vintage charm, right?” Sprayed a bit of water mist to tame the frizz.
Finally, I stepped back and checked the mirror. Took maybe 15 minutes total, and it actually held up! Not fancy or red-carpet ready, but it felt retro and fun. Ended up keeping it on while I made coffee. Would try again, ’cause it’s so basic and fast, even if it gets messy sometimes.
