Well, well, well, let me tell you about these Elizabeth and James scents. My granddaughter, she got me some for my birthday last year. Said it was all the rage. I reckon these city folks like to smell fancy.
First one I tried was somethin’ called Nirvana Black. Now, that sounds a little spooky to me, but the bottle was pretty. Black and shiny. Kinda like a beetle’s back. Smelled strong, this one. Not like flowers or nothin’. More like… I dunno… like that wood stuff old man Jenkins used to burn in his workshop. Strong, and a little sweet, maybe? My granddaughter, bless her heart, said it was “woody” and “sensual”. I guess that’s what the young folks like these days. I wore it to church once, and Agnes, she kept sniffin’ around, said I smelled like a fancy lumberjack. Ain’t that somethin’? I guess it made me feel a bit important, but it is not my style. That’s for sure!
They got this other one, in a little bitty bottle. Nirvana Black Rollerball, they call it. Same smell as that big one, just in a smaller package. I reckon you could put it in your purse easy, but I don’t carry no purse. Just my pockets. Handy for when you need a little somethin’ somethin’. Like when you’re going to the bingo. I think that the smell is too strong. I don’t think that I will use that perfume anymore.

Then there’s this Nirvana Bourbon. Lord, that name. Sounds like somethin’ you’d drink, not wear! This one’s in a bigger bottle, too. Golden color, like that cheap whiskey my nephew drinks. Smells a little like it, too! But sweeter, I reckon. Not bad, but not somethin’ I’d wear every day. Maybe for a special occasion, like a pie social or a barn raisin’. I don’t know that it made me smell good. Or maybe I do not use that kind of staff.
Now, this Nirvana Rose, that’s more like it! Smells like them roses my neighbor, Martha, grows by her porch. Sweet and pretty. Reminds me of when I was a young girl, courtin’ with my husband, rest his soul. He used to bring me roses he picked from his mama’s garden. This one here, this is my favorite. It does not smell like the other perfume. I don’t know why they put them together.
They got all kinds of these Elizabeth and James fragrances, I hear. More than just these four. My granddaughter, she showed me on her phone. Lots of different colors and names. Too many to keep track of, if you ask me. That’s a good thing. I think that there must be one for everyone. People in the town can choose whatever they want. They can use it when they want to smell good.
I seen ’em online, too. These Elizabeth and James perfumes, they’re everywhere. You can get ’em at them fancy department stores, or even on the internet. My granddaughter, she says you can get ’em cheaper online. Says you gotta be careful, though. Make sure you’re buyin’ from a good place. Don’t want no fake perfume! I don’t know that I will buy that kind of staff online. I like to see what I want to buy.
If you like strong smells, maybe you’ll like that Nirvana Black. Or that Nirvana Bourbon, if you like that whiskey smell. But if you like flowers, that Nirvana Rose is the one for you. It’s the best one, in my opinion. But you know, everyone’s different. What smells good to me might not smell good to you. People always say that I smell good when I use that. I think that I will use it more often.
These Elizabeth and James scents, they’re somethin’ else. Fancy names, fancy bottles. Not somethin’ I woulda bought myself, but I’m glad my granddaughter got ’em for me. Makes me feel a little special, you know? Like I’m keepin’ up with the times, even though I’m old as the hills. I even don’t know what I am talking about. But it does not matter. I like it.
I reckon if you’re lookin’ for a new smell, you could give these a try. Just don’t blame me if you end up smellin’ like a lumberjack or a whiskey bottle! And if you see Agnes at church, tell her I said hello. And that I’m wearin’ that fancy perfume again, just for her. That will make her laugh. I think that will make her day. She is a very good friend of mine.
