Okay, so, today I’m gonna talk about Shakira’s look at the Met Gala, and how I tried to copy it, and let me tell you, it was a journey.

First off, I started by looking at a bunch of pictures of Shakira. You know, just to get a good idea of her usual style. She’s got these amazing curls, right? I noticed a few things right away – her hair is always full of volume, and those curls are super defined, kind of like, well, ringlets.
Then, I dug deeper, trying to find out exactly what kind of curls she has. I read somewhere that they’re called “ringlet curls.” Apparently, it’s the kind that looks like you wrapped your hair around a marker or something. They start right at the root and look really bouncy. Mine? Not so much.
So, I got to work. I washed my hair and then used a ton of curl-defining cream. I mean, a LOT. I sectioned my hair like I saw in some tutorial and started twisting each section around my finger. It took forever, let me tell you. I think my arms fell asleep twice.
My Attempt
- Washed hair and applied a generous amount of curl cream.
- Sectioned hair and painstakingly twisted each section to mimic ringlets.
- Dried hair with a diffuser, hoping for the best.
- Styled the top part to add some volume.
After that, I used a diffuser to dry my hair, hoping it would set the curls. It kinda did, but it wasn’t quite Shakira level yet. I fluffed it up a bit at the roots to get some more volume. My hair is naturally pretty flat, so this was a real struggle. I even flipped my head upside down and shook it out – desperate times, people.
The end result? Well, it wasn’t exactly a Met Gala moment, but I think I got closer to Shakira’s curls than I thought I would. They were definitely more defined than usual, and I had way more volume. It felt different, kind of fun, actually. It wasn’t perfect, mind you. It looked a little messy in places, and my arms were killing me. I do not have the kind of body strength it takes to hold my arms over my head for that long, or the patience to maintain this every day.
I learned that Shakira’s hair is probably the result of some serious styling and maybe even some professional help. She also uses something called protective treatments to keep it healthy, considering all the styling products she uses. But hey, it was a fun experiment! Maybe I’ll try it again sometime, but for now, I’m going back to my usual, low-maintenance hairstyle. It has taken me all day to style my hair this way and I do not intend on doing it again any time soon!
