Safety Pin Dress: How to Style It (Easy Outfit Ideas!)

Okay, so I saw this trend going around, the “safety pin dress,” and I thought, “I can totally do that!” It looked simple enough, just a black dress and a bunch of safety pins, right? Wrong! But, let me start from the beginning.

Finding the Dress

First, I needed a black dress. I rummaged through my closet and found this old, plain black bodycon dress I hadn’t worn in ages. It was perfect – stretchy, simple, and definitely needed some spicing up.

Gathering Supplies

Next, the safety pins. I thought I had a ton, but when I actually started looking, I only found a small handful. So, I ran to the store and grabbed a couple of packs of different sized safety pins. I figured it would look cooler with a bit of variety. I also picked up some chalk, just in case I mess up big time.

The Pinning Process

This is where things got interesting. I put on the dress and started pinning. My initial idea was to create a sort of ripped, punk-rock effect along the sides. I started by spacing the pins evenly, but it looked… weird. Too organized.

  • I tried clustering them together, then spacing them out.
  • I tried making diagonal lines, then straight lines.
  • I even tried making a random pattern, and that was even worse!

Honestly, I spent a good hour just pinning and unpinning, and my fingers started to hurt. I was getting really frustrated with making this work!

A Change of Plans

After what felt like forever, I decided to ditch the side-slit idea. It just wasn’t working for me. Instead, I opted for a simpler design. I decided to create a line of safety pins down the front, from the neckline to just above the knee. It was still edgy, but a bit more manageable.

The Final Result

Finally! I finished pinning, and you know what? I actually liked it! It wasn’t exactly like the pictures I saw online, but it was my own version, and it looked pretty cool. It added a bit of an edge to an otherwise boring dress. I paired it with some chunky boots, and it looked awesome, like a real outfit!

So, yeah, the safety pin dress. A lot harder than it looks, but totally worth it in the end. My fingers might be a little sore, but I’ve got a unique dress and a fun story to tell. Would I do it again? Maybe… with a better plan next time!
