Rocking cowgirl boots: Styling tips and what to wear

So, I decided I wanted to try wearing cowgirl boots. Just got this idea in my head one day, maybe saw it somewhere, don’t really remember. Thought, why not? Gotta try things.

Getting Started

First step, obviously, was getting a pair. Didn’t want to spend a fortune right off the bat, you know? In case I hated them. Went down to a couple of stores. Man, there are a lot of boots out there. Pointy toes, square toes, different heel heights, all kinds of leather and stitching.

Tried on maybe five or six pairs. Some felt super stiff, like wearing cardboard boxes on my feet. One pair pinched my toes something fierce. Finally found a pair that felt… okay. Not amazing, but okay. Plain brown leather, nothing too flashy. Figured that was a safe bet. Bought ’em.

The First Outing

Got them home, let ’em sit in the box for a few days. Felt kinda silly, actually putting them on. Eventually, I just did it. Decided to wear them for a quick run to the grocery store. Nothing major.

Walking felt weird. Really weird. The heel was different from my usual shoes, kinda made me clomp around. And the shaft of the boot against my calf? Didn’t expect that sensation. Felt stiff. I was super conscious of the noise they made on the floor. Felt like every single person was staring at my feet. Probably wasn’t true, but it felt like it.

Breaking Them In

Didn’t give up though. Started wearing them around the house a bit. Then for short walks outside. Slowly, slowly, they started to feel a little less… alien.

  • Wore them while doing yard work.
  • Tried them with different jeans – tucked in, over the top.
  • Walked around the block a few times.

The leather started to soften up just a tiny bit. They began to feel more like my boots, not just some random boots I bought. Still felt a bit clunky sometimes, especially on stairs.

Where I’m At Now

Okay, so now? I actually wear them sometimes. Not every day, definitely not. They’re still not my go-to comfy shoes. But for certain things, yeah, I’ll pull them out. They’re kinda fun, in a way. Adds a different vibe.

They definitely got more comfortable over time. Guess that’s the whole point of breaking in leather boots. Took a while, more effort than just buying sneakers, that’s for sure. It’s funny, you get these ideas, things you wanna try. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don’t. This one? Yeah, it kinda worked out okay. Still feel a bit like I’m playing dress-up sometimes, but less than before. It’s a process, I guess.
