Rocking 2001 Raf Simons: Your Guide to This Classic Collection

Getting Started

First things first, I gathered all my materials. For this, all I really needed was my laptop and a solid internet connection. Then, I opened up a bunch of tabs – runway photos, articles, forum discussions, anything I could find about that specific collection. I even dug up some old interviews with Raf himself, just to get into his head a little bit.

Deep Dive into 2001

I spent a good chunk of time just scrolling through images. I mean, really studying them. I wanted to soak it all in – the colors, the shapes, the textures, the whole vibe of it. I was trying to imagine how these clothes would feel, how they would move, how they would make you feel wearing them. It was like trying to solve a puzzle.

  • I noticed the oversized silhouettes, almost swallowing the models whole.
  • I saw a lot of dark colors, blacks, greys, deep reds.
  • I picked up on this almost apocalyptic, rebellious feeling.

Making Connections

Then, I started to try to piece it all together. What was Raf trying to say with this collection? What was the inspiration? I read a bunch of different interpretations, some people talking about it as a reaction to 9/11, others seeing it as a commentary on youth culture and rebellion. Honestly, I think it’s probably a bit of all of that, and more.

My Takeaway

After spending the day immersed in this collection, I feel like I have a much better understanding of Raf Simons’ * has really expanded my understanding of fashion, It’s powerful, it’s thought-provoking, and it’s definitely not for everyone. And that’s what makes it so interesting. I feel like I still have a lot more to learn, but this was a great starting point. I’m already thinking about which collection I want to explore next!
