Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Raf Simons lately, especially the “Black Palms” stuff. I finally decided to try and recreate one of the looks, focusing on that oversized, almost apocalyptic vibe.

First, I scoured my closet. I needed a base layer, something dark and simple. I found an old black long-sleeve t-shirt that was a bit faded, which actually worked perfectly. It had that worn-in look I was going for.
Finding the Right Pieces
- Base Layer: Old, faded black long-sleeve.
- Outer Layer: This was trickier…
The outer layer was the real challenge. I needed something oversized, ideally a coat or jacket with some serious volume. I checked out a few thrift stores, hoping to find some hidden gem. No luck, unfortunately. Everything was either too fitted or just not the right style.
Then, I remembered I had this HUGE black raincoat stuffed in the back of my closet. It’s one of those shapeless, almost poncho-like things. I pulled it out, and it was surprisingly perfect. It had that dramatic, oversized silhouette I wanted.
Putting it all Together
I put on the long-sleeve and then threw the raincoat on top. It was definitely big, even for an oversized look. I played around with it a bit, cinching it at the waist with a simple black belt. I think the key point is to find a way to make you look good.
For pants, I just wore some basic black jeans. I thought about going for something more distressed, that would be nice, I will do it next time!

The shoes were easy. I have these beat-up black boots that I wear all the time. They already have that worn, lived-in look, so they fit the aesthetic perfectly. I also tried my sneaker on, it’s not bad.
The Final Result
Honestly, I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It wasn’t an exact replica of anything Raf Simons, but it definitely captured that dark, oversized, slightly edgy vibe. It’s also super comfortable, which is a bonus.
I learned that recreating a high-fashion look doesn’t have to be about buying expensive pieces. It’s more about understanding the overall feeling and finding ways to achieve that with what you already have, or can find inexpensively. And sometimes, a little bit of DIY customization goes a long way!
