Marie Antoinette Inspired Clothing: Get the Royal Look (Easy Style Guide)

Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with the whole Marie Antoinette aesthetic lately. You know, the pastels, the ruffles, the over-the-top opulence… it’s just so fun! I decided I wanted to try and put together a look inspired by her, but, like, a modern, wearable version. Not a full-on costume, you know?

Digging for Inspiration

First, I spent hours on Pinterest, just scrolling through pictures of 18th-century fashion and modern interpretations. I saved a bunch of images that really caught my eye – things with the right colors, textures, and silhouettes. I also watched the Sofia Coppola movie Marie Antoinette again, because, duh, the costumes are amazing.

Putting It Together

I already had a few pieces in my closet that I thought could work. For example, there is this pale pink, flowy top with some lace details – it’s not exactly period-accurate, but it gave me the right vibe. And, there is a cream-colored, tiered skirt that I thought could work for the bottom. My wardrobe were lack of some core stuff, it need to be purchased.

  • A cute little pearl necklace. I figured pearls were a must-have.
  • Some ribbon! I wanted to tie a bow in my hair.
  • Maybe some kind of small, decorative fan.

The Shopping

I was so excited, I headed to the shopping center next to my home. I found a super cute pearl necklace at a vintage shop. It wasn’t too expensive, which was great. Then I went to a craft store and got some pale blue satin ribbon. I tried to find a fan, but no luck. That’s okay, I thought, the necklace and ribbon were enough.

Experiment Time!

Back home, I laid everything out and started experimenting. I put on the pink top and the cream skirt. Then I added the pearl necklace. It was looking pretty good! I tried a few different hairstyles, finally settling on a half-updo with the blue ribbon tied in a big bow. I even added a little bit of blush and some shimmery eyeshadow to complete the look.

The Result

I was actually really happy with how it turned out! It wasn’t a perfect replica of Marie Antoinette’s style, of course, but it definitely captured the essence of it. It felt romantic, feminine, and a little bit extra – just what I was going for. I took some pictures, of course, because why not? It was a fun little project, and it made me feel like a modern-day princess, even if it was just for a little while.
