Mae West Walking: The Ultimate Guide to Her Legendary walk, Get Her style.

Okay, so today I tried to do the “Mae West” walk. You know, that exaggerated, hip-swaying walk that just screams confidence and old Hollywood glamour? Yeah, well, let’s just say my attempt was… less than glamorous.

Mae West Walking: The Ultimate Guide to Her Legendary walk, Get Her style.

Getting Started

First, I watched a few clips of Mae West herself. I mean, you gotta go to the source, right? She’s the queen! I focused on how she moved, the way her hips swung, and the way she held her shoulders. It looked so effortless for her.

The Practice

  • I started by just walking normally, trying to get a feel for my own natural rhythm.
  • Then, I tried to add a little hip sway. Just a gentle push to each side with each step.
  • This is the point where things get a little dicey. Then I tried to do the hip motion, and I just can’t do it, it’s so difficult.
  • Okay, more hip. I pushed it further, trying to get that exaggerated movement. I felt like I was going to tip over!
  • I added in the shoulder movement, a little shimmy to go with the hips. This felt really awkward.
  • I looked in the mirror. Big mistake. I looked less like Mae West and more like a malfunctioning robot.

The “Results”

I practiced for a good 20 minutes, walking back and forth in my living room. My cat gave me some very judgmental looks. I think I pulled a muscle in my lower back. And honestly? I still looked ridiculous.

But, you know what? It was fun! Even though I failed miserably, I laughed a lot. And I definitely got some exercise. Maybe with more practice, I’ll eventually get the hang of it. Or maybe I’ll just stick to my regular, non-hip-swaying walk. We’ll see!
