Okay, so today I wanted to try and recreate that iconic * green dress. You know, the Versace one? I’ve always thought it was so bold and beautiful, and figured, why not give it a shot?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find some fabric. I had no idea where to even begin, I knew I couldn’t just make a carbon copy, that sounded far too complicated.
I rummaged through my old scrap fabrics that I saved, and there was plenty of material to give this a try. The closet thing I had in color and quantity was something sheer and green and I had to work with that.
The Messy Middle
- Sketching It Out: No fancy patterns here. I literally just draped the fabric on my dress form and started pinning and cutting. It was a bit of a free-for-all, trying to get that flowy, drapey thing * had going on.
- Sewing Struggles: Sheer fabric is NOT fun to sew. It slips, it slides, it bunches up…it’s a nightmare. My sewing machine and I had a few arguments, let me tell you.
- The Deep V: This was the trickiest part. I had to figure out how to get that plunging neckline without, you know, everything falling out. Lots of safety pins and careful folding were involved. I also used some, fashion tape – my new best friend.
The (Almost) Finished Product
It’s definitely not perfect. It’s more “inspired by” than a replica. But you know what? I’m pretty proud of it! It captures some of that * vibe, that flowy, dramatic feel. It certainly feels revealing.
I wore it around the house, did a few twirls, and felt pretty fabulous. My husband just laughed and shook his head, he wasn’t very impressed, or so he says. Maybe I’ll wear it out sometime…or maybe I’ll just keep it as a fun reminder that sometimes, it’s fun to try something a little crazy and see what happens, I might have to take up sewing as a hobby!
