Okay, so I saw this special, “Ali Wong: Don Wong,” and I gotta say, I was kinda hyped. I mean, she’s been hilarious in the past, right? So, I carved out some time, made some popcorn, and settled in for a good laugh.

The Setup
I started the special with pretty high expectations. I’d seen her other stuff, told my friends about it, the whole deal. The beginning was… okay. She had some decent jokes, you know, the usual Ali Wong style – bold, raunchy, talking about sex and marriage and stuff.
The Middle Bit
But then, somewhere in the middle, I started to feel like things were dragging. It wasn’t that the jokes were bad, exactly. It was more like… I’d heard them before? Or variations of them, at least. It felt like she was relying on the same formula, the same shock value, without really bringing anything new to the table. I even paused it a couple of times to check my phone, which is never a good sign.
Getting to the End
- I kept watching, hoping it would pick up.
- There were a few moments where I chuckled, I’ll admit.
- But overall, the energy felt off.
- It was almost like she was going through the motions.
The Verdict
By the time the special ended, I was just… disappointed. I didn’t hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it. It felt like a rehash of her older material, without the same spark. I actually went back and watched some clips of her previous specials, and yeah, the difference was pretty clear. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I was in a weird mood, but this one just didn’t hit the mark. I finished the popcorn, though. That was good.
