So lemme tell ya how I ended up making this Valentino Chai that actually tastes like the fancy stuff, not some sad cardboard box version. Saw this recipe floating around and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” My kitchen smells insane now, so guess it worked!

What I grabbed straight from my pantry:
- Water – just regular tap water, nothing fancy
- Tea bags – had some plain Assam black tea. The strong kind.
- Whole milk – gotta be full fat. Tried 2% once… mistake.
- Cardamom pods – smashed ’em with my knife handle. Crunchy!
- Cinnamon stick – one big piece I found in the back.
- Fresh ginger – peeled a chunk, chopped it rough.
- Cloves – like five little guys? Didn’t count.
- Sugar – plain white sugar. Yeah, boring but it works.
My messy kitchen adventure:
First, filled my small pot about half full with water – maybe like 1.5 cups? Who measures exactly? Turned the stove on high. Tossed in the smashed cardamom pods, the broken cinnamon stick, the chopped ginger (peel and all, who cares), and the cloves. Boiled that sucker hard for a good 10 minutes. Stank up the whole apartment, but like… in a good way. Spices everywhere.
Then, lowered the heat a bit. Threw in two tea bags. Let those suckers stew for another 5 minutes. The water went real dark, almost scary dark. Poked the bags a bit to squeeze ’em. Tea needs to be STRONG for chai.
Time for milk. Poured in maybe 3/4 cup? Eyeballed it. Just enough to lighten it a bit but not turn it beige. Kept it simmering, not boiling, for another 5 minutes. You gotta be patient here! Stirred it a few times. Almost forgot the sugar! Dumped in a big spoonful – maybe 2 tablespoons? Stirred like crazy ’til it vanished.
Finally, got a mug and my little strainer. Poured the hot chai through the strainer into the mug. All those spicy bits and tea gunk got caught – good riddance! Sniffed it. Wow. Actually smelled like the expensive chai place downtown.
Took a sip. HOT. But seriously, so much flavor! Cardamom punch, ginger kick, smooth tea and milk underneath. Didn’t need to add extra anything. Just like I wanted. Made a second cup right after. Guess I nailed it. Way cheaper than buying it out, too. Gonna make this my regular brew now for sure.
