Alright, let me tell you about this little thing I got obsessed with recently, focusing on Chrissy and Francine. You know, the peppy rabbit sisters from Animal Crossing? Yeah, them. It started pretty simply, I was just wandering around my island, then hopped over to someone else’s, and boom, saw their houses kinda near each other. Got me thinking.
Getting Started
So, the idea popped into my head: why not try and make something cool featuring both of them? They’ve got that whole contrasting polka-dot thing going on, one pink, one blue. Seemed like a fun little challenge. First thing I did was just gather a bunch of pictures. Screenshots from the game, fan art, you name it. Needed to get their vibes right, you know? Chrissy’s all bright and energetic, Francine’s a bit more cool and snooty, but they still match.
I decided I’d try and recreate their signature looks, maybe side-by-side. Not in the game this time, but maybe like a digital drawing or something. Fired up the old tablet and started sketching.
The Messy Middle
Man, getting the look right was harder than I thought. Especially Francine. Her expression always has that little bit of side-eye, you know? Took me ages just fiddling with the eyes. And the polka dots! Don’t get me started. Making them look natural and not just slapped on was a pain. Had to redo Chrissy’s dress pattern like, three times because it looked wonky.
I spent a good few hours just on the line work. Then came the coloring. Trying to match those specific shades of pink and blue they use? Ugh. My screen calibration is probably off anyway, so I was constantly second-guessing myself. Does this pink look too pink? Is that blue too dark?

Honestly, at one point I nearly scrapped the whole thing. Got distracted watching some videos, then came back to it and hated what I’d done. Classic. But I’d already sunk a few hours into it, so I figured I might as well push through.
Finally Getting Somewhere
What kinda worked was simplifying things a bit. Stopped trying to make it super perfect, hyper-realistic or whatever. Just focused on capturing their essence, their sisterly dynamic. Put them back-to-back, kinda playful. That felt better.
Spent another session just tweaking colors and adding some simple shading. Nothing fancy, just enough to give them a bit of depth. Didn’t bother with a complicated background, just a simple split down the middle, pink on one side, blue on the other. Kept the focus on them.
The End Result
So yeah, after fiddling around for what felt like forever, I finally got something I was reasonably happy with. It’s not gonna win any awards, that’s for sure. It’s a bit rough around the edges, kinda like how I work. But hey, it looks like Chrissy and Francine, you can tell who they are, and it captures that cute sisterly thing they have.
It’s done. Put the stylus down. Called it a day. Was a decent way to spend some time, practice a bit. Those two are quite the pair, definitely added a bit of color to my routine, messing with this project.
