Picked areas like Belleville and Ménilmontant on the map because I’d heard they were higher. And yeah, you definitely feel the climb heading east. It’s not crazy steep most of the time, but it’s noticeable.
Then I dug out some old maps I had, trying to make sense of the contour lines. Honestly, it was a bit of a mess. Different maps showed things slightly differently. Not exactly precise science going on here at my kitchen table. I also tried using some basic online map tools, the kind that show terrain. Had to squint a bit, but it helped visualize things.
My Observations
Here’s what I sort of pieced together from my walks and map gazing:

It wasn’t about finding exact numbers for me. It was more about getting a feel for the shape of the city beneath the buildings. You walk these streets differently when you realize you’re climbing a gentle slope that’s been there for centuries.
So yeah, Paris has its ups and downs, literally. It’s not just the famous hills. The whole place undulates more than you might think just looking at postcard pictures.
