Gold Heuer Glassbox: Is It Worth the Hype? (Find Out Here in Our Detailed Review!)

Man, you won’t believe the journey I went on with this TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox. I’ve always been a bit of a watch guy, but this one, this was special. It all started a few months back when I saw some buzz online about a new gold version of the Glassbox. I’d seen the regular ones before, but gold? That caught my eye.

So, I started digging. Turns out, this wasn’t just any gold watch. It was inspired by some vintage Heuer piece from the ’60s, the 7753SN. Pretty cool, right? I’m a sucker for that retro vibe. Anyway, I found out it’s got this new movement, the TH20-00, which supposedly lasts for, like, 80 hours without winding. Plus, it’s water-resistant up to 100 meters, not that I’d ever take a gold watch swimming, but you know, it’s good to know.

The real clincher for me was the design. They call it a “Glassbox” because of the sapphire crystal. It’s all domed and stuff, just like the old plastic crystals they used back in the day. Gives it a real classic look. I managed to track one down at a local dealer. The moment I laid my eyes on it, I was hooked. It’s 39mm, which is a decent size for my wrist, and it’s got this 18k yellow gold case that just gleams.

I ended up pulling the trigger, and let me tell you, no regrets. Wearing it feels amazing. It’s got some weight to it, but not too much, about 89 grams. The lug-to-lug is 45.5 mm, which I guess is important to some people, but for me, it just fits right. It is a bit thick though, at 13.8mm. Honestly, though, I barely notice it. The whole thing just screams quality. I mean, TAG Heuer, they’re known for their craftsmanship, and this watch is no exception.

  • First, I was drawn in by the online chatter about the gold version.
  • Then I dug deeper into its features and heritage.
  • Next, I located a dealer and saw it in person.
  • Finally, I bought it and have been enjoying it ever since.

It’s definitely a conversation starter. I’ve had a few people ask me about it, and I’m always happy to share the story. It’s not just a watch; it’s a piece of history, a little slice of the ’60s on my wrist. And yeah, it’s a bit of a splurge, but for a watch nerd like me, it’s totally worth it. I even sometimes feel like it should go on a steel bracelet just like the ‘Panda’ version but, I am not sure how to get one.

Is it for everyone?

Probably not. But if you’re into watches, especially vintage-inspired ones, and you appreciate good craftsmanship, then you might want to check out the gold Heuer Glassbox. It’s a solid piece, and it makes me feel like a million bucks, even if my bank account says otherwise. If you see one, try it on. You might just fall for it, like I did.
