Okay, so it’s 2024, but let’s dive back to 2014 for a sec, fashion-wise. I was messing around in my closet, and I remembered those fall 2014 outfit vibes. Thought I’d try to recreate some looks and see how they hold up.

Digging Through the Archives (aka My Closet)
First, I started by pulling out anything that screamed “2014” to me. You know, stuff I hadn’t touched in ages. Found a bunch of old favorites:
- Flannel shirts – tons of them!
- Ankle boots – both flat and with a little heel.
- Skinny jeans – yep, still got ’em.
- A couple of oversized sweaters.
- My trusty beanies.
- Infinity scarves! Remember those?
Operation: Outfit Reconstruction
Then I tried mixing and matching. My main goal was to see if these looks felt dated or if they could still work. I played around with a few combos:
- Flannel & Skinnies: Classic! I paired a red and black flannel with dark wash skinny jeans and some black ankle boots. Added a beanie for good measure. Felt pretty comfy, and honestly, not super outdated.
- Oversized Sweater & Leggings: Threw on a chunky knit sweater with some black leggings and those same ankle boots. This one felt a little more 2014, mainly because of the leggings. Could maybe update it with wider-leg pants?
- Scarf Mania: I grabbed an infinity scarf (burgundy, of course) and layered it over a simple long-sleeved tee and jeans. This…definitely felt very 2014. Maybe the infinity scarf needs to stay retired.
- Tried to do something with a skater skirt and some tights, but it just wasn’t working for me. Felt a little too juvenile.
The Verdict?
Honestly, it was fun! Some of the stuff, like the basic flannel and jeans combo, could totally still be worn today. Others, like the infinity scarf…yeah, maybe not. It’s interesting to see how styles evolve. I realized I could probably incorporate some of these pieces back into my current wardrobe by just updating them a bit – maybe swapping the skinny jeans for a straighter leg, or ditching the super-obvious 2014 accessories.
I think my biggest take away here is, some of these “old” clothes, I can give them a second chance.
