My Little Project: Nailing That Pink Shade

Okay, so the other day I got this idea stuck in my head. I wanted to find that specific kind of pink, you know, the one that sort of reminds you of Drew Barrymore. Not too loud, kinda cheerful, just… right. Seemed simple enough, right?

So, I started digging around. First thing I did was jump online. Typed in variations, looked at pictures. Lots of pinks, obviously. But getting that exact vibe I was picturing? Tougher than I thought.

I remembered she has that makeup line, Flower Beauty. Figured that was the logical next step. So I spent some time looking through their stuff online. Found a few promising candidates. Looked at swatches, read descriptions. Some looked close on the screen, but you know how screens are. Colors get weird.

Finding the Right Stuff

Didn’t want to just buy a bunch of stuff hoping one would work. That’s not really my style, bit wasteful. I thought maybe I could replicate it myself. I have some older makeup, blushes and lipsticks I don’t use much anymore.

  • Pulled out a few pinks and corals.
  • Tried mixing a bit on the back of my hand.
  • Added a touch of a lighter shade here, a dab of something warmer there.

It was a messy process, honestly. Got some okay-ish results, but nothing really clicked. One was too chalky, another too shimmery. It wasn’t hitting that specific feel I was aiming for – sort of natural but definitely pink.

Getting Closer

Went back to looking at photos of her, specifically trying to pinpoint when she wore that kind of pink. Was it a movie look? An event? Hard to tell sometimes with lighting and all that. Found a few looks I liked, tried to color-match by eye again with what I had.

Eventually, I was in a store just browsing, not even thinking about it much anymore. Walked past a makeup display for a different brand entirely. And there it was. Or, something really, really close. It was a cream blush stick, actually. Swatched it on my hand, and boom. That felt like it. Had that soft, happy pink quality I was looking for.

It wasn’t even labeled anything fancy. Just a simple name. Bought that one stick. Took it home, tried it out properly. Yeah, that was pretty much it. Maybe not the exact Flower Beauty shade I might have initially looked for, but it captured the feeling, the vibe. And sometimes, that’s good enough. Felt good to finally pin it down after all that fuss.
