How I Started This Mess

Okay so last weekend I was scrolling through stuff online and got this wild idea – “Heck, why not make my own necklaces?”. Saw some fancy ones costing crazy money and thought “Nah I can do this cheaper”. Grabbed my old dusty craft box that’s been sitting under the bed since forever.

The Stuff I Dug Up

Dumped everything out on my kitchen table. Seriously looked like a junk yard sale! Found:

  • Random colorful beads from a broken bracelet
  • Some rusty chains from grandma’s old necklace
  • Cheap pliers that kept slipping
  • Superglue that accidentally stuck my finger to the table once (still hurts)
  • Leftover copper wire tangled like spaghetti

First Try Disaster

Tried copying a picture I saw online. Big mistake. Started threading beads onto the wire but my hands were shaking like crazy. Dropped tiny beads everywhere – heard them rolling under the fridge, probably gone forever. The wire kept kinking like a stubborn hose. Got frustrated and twisted too hard, snapped the whole thing in half. Beads went flying like popcorn. My cat went nuts chasing them.

Switching Plans Like a Pro

Scrapped that idea fast. Decided to just wing it with what I had. Cut the longest chain piece with those dodgy pliers (took three tries to actually cut through). Threaded my favorite blue glass beads directly onto it, spacing them unevenly on purpose. Looked kinda cool messy! Grabbed a seashell charm from last summer’s beach trip, jabbed a hole through it with a nail and hammer (almost smashed my thumb!). Hooked it on the end with a wonky handmade loop.

The Glue Nightmare

Forgot glue dries stupid fast. Smeared too much on the clasp connector. Pressed it way too hard and squeezed half the glue out. Got sticky gunk all over the chain. Panicked and wiped it with my shirt – bad move! Glue smeared everywhere plus now my shirt’s wrecked. Stuck the clasp crooked while scrambling to fix it. Said “Whatever, character!” and left it to dry crooked.

Final Wonky Result

Honestly? It’s lopsided. Beads sit funny. Clasp looks drunk. BUT it’s mine! Wore it grocery shopping and weirdly got two compliments. Lady at produce asked where I bought it – nearly choked laughing. Total cost? Practically free since I scavenged everything. Best part? When it breaks I’ll just make another ugly masterpiece. Give it a shot folks, messing up is half the fun.
