Alright, let’s talk about 2011 and what was going on with clothes back then. It feels like a while ago now, but I remember some things pretty clearly because I was definitely trying to figure out my style around that time.

Trying Out the Trends
I remember color blocking suddenly being everywhere. You know, wearing really bright, solid colors together? Like a bright pink top with orange pants or something. I saw it in magazines first, then started noticing people actually wearing it.
So, what did I do? I went to the mall, like I usually did back then on a Saturday. I specifically looked for bright stuff. I remember picking up this really vibrant blue top. I wasn’t brave enough for the clashing colors right away, so I just wore it with plain black trousers I already had. Felt pretty stylish at the time, even though looking back it was quite simple. I tried a few combinations in the fitting room though, holding up different colored pieces together just to see. Some looked crazy, not gonna lie.
Staples I Actually Wore
Of course, skinny jeans were still king. Absolutely everyone seemed to be wearing them. I definitely jumped on that bandwagon hard. I think I bought like three new pairs in 2011.
- One dark wash pair I wore constantly.
- A grey pair, which felt a bit different.
- Maybe a black pair too, can’t quite recall.
They weren’t always the most comfortable, especially the really tight ones, but that was the look, right? You just kind of dealt with it. I remember literally having to hop around sometimes to get them on.
Another thing I definitely got into was maxi skirts. They suddenly popped up and felt really different from the usual short skirts or jeans. I found one I really liked, it was long, flowy, and had some kind of subtle print on it. I wore that thing all summer long. It was super comfortable, which was a nice change. Easy to just throw on with a simple t-shirt.

Figuring It All Out
My process back then wasn’t very scientific. I didn’t follow specific designers or anything. It was more about:
- Seeing what was in the shops I usually went to.
- Noticing what friends or people on the street were wearing.
- Maybe flipping through a magazine while waiting somewhere.
I’d just try things on. If I liked how it looked and felt, and if I could afford it, I’d get it. I wasn’t trying to make huge fashion statements, just wanted to feel like I fit in and looked reasonably up-to-date. Sometimes I’d buy something and barely wear it, other things became favourites. It was all trial and error, really. Just figuring out what worked for me by actually doing it, wearing the clothes, seeing how I felt.
Yeah, 2011… some interesting choices were made! It’s funny looking back at photos sometimes. But hey, that’s part of the fun of it all, trying things out as they come along.
