Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Cher’s style from the 70s lately. I mean, who isn’t? That woman was (and still is!) a fashion icon. I decided I wanted to try and recreate some of her iconic looks, just for fun, and I figured I’d document the whole thing.

The Deep Dive (aka Research)
First things first, I needed to do some serious research. I spent hours, and I mean hours, scrolling through pictures online. I looked at old magazine scans, concert photos, and screenshots from her TV show. I really immersed myself in all things Cher.
I started noticing some common themes:
- Lots of Sparkle: Sequins, rhinestones, glitter – you name it, she wore it.
- Bold Colors: Think bright yellows, oranges, and turquoises. Nothing subtle here.
- Bell Bottoms: A 70s staple, obviously. But Cher’s were often extra-wide and extra-fabulous.
- Crop Tops: She showed off her amazing abs with tons of crop tops, often paired with high-waisted pants or skirts.
- Headscarves and Headbands: These were a major part of her look, adding that extra bit of glam.
- Cutouts: showing skin for sure, with many one of a kind hand made outfits.
The Hunt (aka Shopping)
Next up, the fun part: finding the clothes! This was a bit of a challenge, to be honest. I hit up a bunch of thrift stores and vintage shops. I also checked out some online stores that specialize in 70s-inspired clothing. I didn’t want exact replicas, just pieces that captured the vibe of Cher’s style.
It took some digging, but I managed to find some great stuff. I scored a pair of amazing wide-leg, orange pants, a sparkly gold crop top, and a few colorful headscarves. It was like putting together a puzzle, finding pieces that I could mix and match to create different outfits.
Putting it All Together (aka The Looks)
Okay, this is where it all came together. I spent an afternoon trying on different combinations, experimenting with accessories, and basically playing dress-up. It was so much fun! I even tried to copy some of her signature poses from the photos I found.

I managed to put together a few outfits that I think really captured Cher’s 70s style. One of my favorites was the orange pants with a turquoise crop top and a matching headscarf. I felt like I was channeling my inner Cher!
The Final Verdict (aka Did I Succeed?)
So, did I achieve my goal of recreating Cher’s iconic 70s style? I think I did a pretty good job! It was definitely a challenge, but it was also a blast. I learned a lot about 70s fashion, and I had a ton of fun in the process. Most importantly, I felt amazing wearing these clothes. They were so bold and glamorous, and they really boosted my confidence. I think I’ll be incorporating some of these pieces into my everyday wardrobe – maybe not the full-on sequin jumpsuit, but definitely the bell bottoms and headscarves!
Totally recommend everyone try diving into a fashion icon and take on that persona for a week, it’s super fun!
