Alright, so you lot have been asking me what I think about the whole Bobbi Brown vs Jones Road thing. And honestly, it’s been a bit of a journey, not just a quick switch-up in my makeup bag. Felt like my face was going through its own little drama for a while there!
My Long History with Bobbi Brown
You see, I’d been a Bobbi Brown girl for, oh, ages. Probably since it first landed over here. I practically built my entire makeup routine around it. Their Skin Foundation Stick? Used it for years. The Pot Rouge for lips and cheeks was a staple, and don’t even get me started on the Shimmer Bricks – I think I had every single one. It was reliable, you know? I knew what I was getting, and for a long time, it just worked. My makeup drawer basically looked like a Bobbi Brown counter. It was my comfort zone, my go-to for looking “put together.”
But then, things started to change. Maybe it was my skin getting older, or perhaps my tastes were just shifting. What used to look great suddenly started to feel a bit… much. The foundation felt a tad heavy sometimes, and some of the concealers, which I used to swear by, began to settle into lines I didn’t even know I had! It was a bit disheartening, really. I’d catch myself in the mirror and think, “Hmm, this isn’t quite hitting the mark anymore.” It felt like I was wearing a mask, rather than just enhancing things.
The Nudge to Try Something New
So, why the change? Well, a couple of things happened. Firstly, my skin just wasn’t loving the heavier stuff anymore. It felt like it needed to breathe. And secondly, I kept hearing whispers about Jones Road. Bobbi Brown herself, starting a new line? That definitely got my attention. I was curious, naturally. I thought, “Okay, if anyone knows what my maturing skin might need, it’s probably her, right?” It wasn’t an easy decision to stray, mind you. I felt a bit like I was cheating on an old friend!
I started doing a bit of digging, watching videos, reading what people were saying. The whole “no-makeup makeup” vibe of Jones Road sounded appealing. I was tired of feeling overly “done.” I just wanted to look fresh, healthy, and like myself, but maybe a slightly more rested version!
Dipping My Toes into Jones Road
So, I took the plunge. I decided to order a few key pieces from Jones Road to see what all the fuss was about. I started with the What The Foundation (WTF) because, well, the name alone made me chuckle and I was desperate for a new base. I also got one of the Miracle Balms – I think it was Dusty Rose – and The Face Pencil.

When the package arrived, I was quite intrigued. The packaging is simple, no-fuss. The WTF texture was… surprising. Not like any foundation I’d used before. It’s very balmy, quite sheer. My first thought was, “Is this actually going to do anything?”
I applied it with my fingers, like they suggest. And you know what? It was different. It didn’t cover everything, not like my old full-coverage foundations. But it evened things out, gave a bit of a glow. My skin looked like skin, just… better. The Miracle Balm was also a bit of a learning curve. You really have to break the seal and warm it up. But once I got the hang of it, I loved the sheer, dewy color it gave my cheeks. It felt nourishing, too.
- Started by just using WTF on its own for a few days.
- Then I incorporated The Face Pencil for under eyes and blemishes. It’s super creamy.
- Gradually added the Miracle Balm on days I wanted a bit more color.
It took a few tries to get the application right, especially with the balm. It’s not a slap-it-on-and-go kind of product, at least not initially. You have to work with it a bit. But I started to really enjoy the process. It felt more intuitive, less like I was painting by numbers.
So, Where Do I Stand Now?
It’s funny. I haven’t completely abandoned my old Bobbi Brown favorites. I still think their gel eyeliner is fantastic, and I’ve got a soft spot for some of their eyeshadows. But for my everyday face? I find myself reaching for Jones Road much more often. It just feels right for me, right now.
The Bobbi Brown stuff, the original line, feels more “makeup-y” to me now. Great for an event, or when I want a more polished, classic look. But Jones Road is my daily driver. It’s easy, it makes my skin look healthy, and it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a ton of product. It’s like my skin, but on a really good day. My makeup routine is quicker now, too, which is a bonus.

So, yeah, that’s been my little adventure. It wasn’t an overnight switch, more like a gradual shift. And I think that’s okay. It’s good to evolve, isn’t it? Even if it’s just your makeup!
