So today I finally tried making my own BLACKPINK themed shoes. Saw tons of cool designs online and thought – how hard could it be? Grabbed my plain white sneakers that were sitting in the closet forever.

Step 1: The Messy Prep Work

First I stripped the shoes down bare. Peeled off the laces, yanked out the insoles – felt kinda brutal actually. Then took sandpaper and scrubbed the surface like crazy. White dust flying everywhere, got in my nose and made me sneeze. This step sucked but heard it helps paint stick better.

Step 2: Paint Party Disaster

Mixed acrylic paints trying to match BLACKPINK’s colors. Hot pink came out neon, the black looked grayish. Had to run back to the craft store twice while wearing my crusty painting shirt. Started painting the left shoe – way harder than those YouTube tutorials show! My brush kept slipping and the lines got all wobbly. Dropped pink paint right on my jeans. RIP favorite jeans.

    Colors I mixed:

  • Faded rose + fire engine red = kinda pink
  • Black + dark blue = midnight black (still looked blue)
  • Sparkle gel for glitter effect (got everywhere)

Step 3: Symbol Shenanigans

Wanted to add their lightstick symbols. Printed stencils but they kept sliding around. Tried freehand drawing the crown logo – looked like a blob with spikes. Ended up using toothpicks for details which took hours. Painted Jennie’s “J” on the heel but made it too big. Right shoe says “BLVK” instead of “BLACK” cause I ran out of space. Close enough?

The Final Hot Mess

After 3 coats of sealer that made my kitchen smell like a chemical factory, here’s what I got: Lopsided pink splotches, one glittery toe cap, shaky logos, and the right shoe is noticeably darker. But you know what? They’re MY ugly beautiful mutant BLACKPINK shoes. Wore them grocery shopping and got two compliments from confused-looking grandmas. Win? Total cost about $45 plus my dignity.

Next time I’ll just buy the official merch.
