Barrie and Lana togther: See Their Best Moments and projects.

Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with making a little mashup of Barrie and Lana Del Rey. I’ve been listening to them both a lot lately, and I thought it would be cool to see if I could blend their vibes.

First, I opened up my DAW – I just use the basic one that came with my computer, nothing fancy. Then, I spent like an hour just listening to a bunch of their songs, trying to find ones that felt like they could maybe work together. It was kind of tough, because they have pretty different tempos and stuff.

I finally decided on Barrie’s “Clovers” and Lana’s “Video Games”. “Clovers” has this really upbeat, almost dreamy feel, and “Video Games,” well, everyone knows that one – super melancholic and classic Lana.

Next, I dragged both tracks into my DAW. I started by trying to match the tempos. This was a pain. I had to slow down “Clovers” quite a bit, and I ended up pitching “Video Games” up just a tiny bit to get them to line up. It took a lot of fiddling, nudging things back and forth.

The Mixing Part

  • I isolated Lana’s vocals as best as I could. There are some tools online you can use for this, it’s not perfect, but it does the job for a quick project.
  • I muted the original “Video Games” instrumental.
  • Then, I started playing with the levels. Getting Lana’s vocals to sit right on top of “Clovers” was tricky. I added some reverb to her vocals, just to make them feel a bit more spacious and fit with the dreaminess of “Clovers.”
  • I fiddled with the EQ a bit, just trying to make sure nothing was clashing too much. I’m no expert at this, so it was mostly just trial and error.

Honestly, the whole thing took me like three hours, way longer than I thought it would. It’s not perfect, not even close. There are definitely some rough spots where the timing feels a little off, and the mixing could be way better. But, for a quick afternoon project, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

It’s cool to hear Lana’s voice over a totally different kind of instrumental. It gives the song a whole new vibe. I might try messing around with some other combinations later. Maybe some Cocteau Twins and… I don’t know, we’ll see! I just felt like sharing the process, even though it’s super basic.
