Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to share this little project of mine for a while now, and with August 2024 on the horizon, I figured it’s about time. Basically, I had this idea to really dive into what makes Vogue tick, especially with how they’re always on top of the trends, even before they become trends, you know?

So, I started by, like, really observing. You see all these fancy words like “aesthetics” and stuff, but what does it even mean? I grabbed a few issues of Vogue from the past year, some older ones too, and just started flipping through them. I paid attention to the brands they were featuring, like Zimmermann and Ulla Johnson, and how they described them. The whole “boho” thing has been around for ages, but it’s always changing a little, right?
Digging Deeper
Then, I thought, okay, Vogue isn’t just about clothes. It’s about the whole package. Accessories, events, the vibe. I noticed they were talking about these new silk scarves from Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren’s stuff for the US Open. It’s like, they’re not just telling you what to wear, they’re showing you a lifestyle.
I also learned that they put out 12 issues a year, which is pretty obvious, but I was curious about how far in advance they work. It’s like, 6-8 weeks for your first issue to arrive after you subscribe, and then you get each one a week before the cover date. That means they’re planning way, way ahead.
Putting It All Together
So, for my August 2024 project, I decided to try and predict what Vogue might be into. I made a big mood board, if you will. Lots of pictures, fabric swatches, color palettes. I’m thinking, based on what I’ve seen, we might be moving past just “boho” or whatever the trend of the day is. It’s more about a feeling, an attitude.
- Started by gathering a bunch of Vogue magazines from different months and years.
- Observed the brands they feature and the language they use to describe them.
- Expanded my research to include accessories and events, not just clothes.
- Learned about their publication schedule to understand their planning timeline.
- Created a mood board to predict the aesthetic and vibe of Vogue August 2024.
It’s been a fun ride, trying to get inside the heads of those Vogue editors. I mean, they’re always ahead of the curve, aren’t they? This project was super interesting, and honestly, it’s made me appreciate the work that goes into a magazine like that even more. I just wanted to share my little adventure with you guys, maybe inspire you to look at things a little differently, too.
