So last Tuesday, my inbox gets this dang promo email screaming about Alice Blue dresses. Big discounts, “vibrant blue shades,” promises of feeling like a million bucks. Yeah, yeah, heard it all before. But curiosity got the cat, you know? Clicked through, browsed a while. Found this midi dress with fluttery sleeves they kept pushing. Looked decent in the pics – summery, casual. Price tag said $65 after discount, not crazy expensive, not super cheap either. Okay, fine. Clicked “Add to Cart.”

The Arrival & First Impressions

Box showed up faster than I expected, I’ll give ’em that. Only took four days. Ripped it open like a kid on Christmas. Pulled the dress out… and the first thing I noticed was the fabric. Thinner than I thought it’d be. Like, hold-it-up-to-the-window-and-see-sunlight-through-it thin. Okay, maybe it’s light for summer? Felt it – bit scratchy, honestly. Not silky like the website kinda hinted. Bit of a downer already.

Checked the seams quick. A couple places looked kinda wonky, threads poking out. One spot near the zipper looked like the stitching was running away from home. Hmm.

The Moment of Truth: Trying It On

Took it to the bedroom. Slipped it on. The zipper? Total nightmare. Felt cheap and flimsy, got stuck halfway up. Had to wrestle with it like it owed me money. Finally got it zipped.

Looked in the mirror. Well… the color was nice, I guess. That “Alice Blue” was pretty. But the fit? Odd. The waist felt kinda… nowhere and everywhere at once? Not really flattering. Those flutter sleeves looked way less cute and way more like awkward bat wings in real life. Length was okay, but the thin fabric meant you could practically see the outline of my old beige underwear underneath. Great. Just great.

Pinned the shoulders a bit, tried tucking the waist, walked around the room… nope. Just felt kinda frumpy and cheap. Definitely NOT the “effortlessly chic” vibe they were selling. More like “trying too hard at a backyard BBQ.”

Testing the Waters (Literally)

Figured, what the heck, let’s see how delicate this thing really is. Wore it around the house for a couple hours doing basically nothing. Sat at my desk, made coffee. Reached for the sugar – pop! One of those tiny decorative buttons on the sleeve? Just… pinged off. Disappeared into the void. Fantastic.

Later, spilled a tiny drop of coffee. Like, micro-drop. Dabbed it super gently with a damp cloth. Guess what? The color started fading right where I dabbed. Seriously? A coffee drop requires hazmat protocol? Not exactly practical wear.

By the end of those two hours, the dress just felt… limp. Lost whatever shape it had pretended to have. Started feeling that scratchy neckline even more.

The Verdict

Worth buying? Honestly, nah. Not for me. Look, here’s the breakdown:

  • Cheap Feel: Thin fabric, scratchy, flimsy zipper, messy seams. Screamed low quality straight outta the bag.
  • Fit & Flatter Disaster: Zero figure, awkward sleeves, weird proportions. Pictures lied big time.
  • Durability? What Durability? Button fell off instantly, fabric started fading from a dab of water. Wore like tissue paper.
  • Price Tag Doesn’t Match: For $65? I expected way, way better. You can get sturdier, better-fitting dresses at Target for less.

Folded it back up, shoved it in the return bag faster than you can say “disappointed.” Post office trip wasn’t fun, but keeping it felt worse. Total bummer. Learned my lesson? Maybe. Save my cash for something that feels like it’s worth wearing more than once.
