So last Friday my boss asked me to check if Roblox is still hot with Gen Z kids. “Get me real numbers,” he said. Man, I just winged it like always.
Step 1: Asked Actual Humans (Failed)
Grabbed my phone, texted my 16-year-old niece: “Hey do you or friends play Roblox?”. She replies back: “??? Uncle that’s for babies 😂 Try Minecraft or Genshin”. Dead end there.
Tried making a Google Forms survey – total mess. Sent it to family group chats, my old college Discord server, even LinkedIn (cringe). Got 12 responses total:
- 4 people said “Roblox what?”
- 2 boomers clicked it by accident
- My cousin spammed “PIZZA” in every answer box
- Actual useful answers: ZERO
Step 2: Faked Data Like Everyone Else
Searched Twitter for #Roblox. Scrolled for 20 minutes seeing mostly:
- Parents complaining about credit card charges
- Adults nostalgic about “old Roblox”
- Spam bots selling “free Robux” scams
Found one tweet from a kid crying about getting scammed – screenshot that as “engagement proof”.
Went to Google Trends. Saw this big spike in “Roblox” searches every damn Christmas when kids get tablets. Pasted that graph straight into my report. Nobody checks sources anyway.
Step 3: Installed Roblox Again (Painful)
Logged into my account from 2018. Password didn’t work – typical. Hit “forgot password”, got stuck in verification loop. Had to reboot my phone twice.
Finally got in. Game looked like somebody puked rainbows. Joined some “adopt a baby dragon” game. Got swarmed by 5 players named xX_DemonSlayer_Xx screaming “TRADE ME YOUR HALO” in chat. Uninstalled after 7 minutes. Headache lasted an hour.
How I “Delivered Results”
Made a PowerPoint with:
- That Google Trends chart (cropped out the dips)
- My niece’s “for babies” text (labeled “Gen Z authentic feedback”)
- Screenshot of chaotic Twitter feed (called it “community buzz”)
Boss loved it. Got approval to buy $5,000 worth of Roblox ads. Why? Because I said “88% of Gen Alpha plays it” – totally made that stat up while eating lunch. The secret sauce? Everyone wants that sweet young user money. Truth doesn’t pay the bills. 🤷♂️
