Where I First Saw This Cologne
Alright, so last Tuesday I’m just scrolling through this random perfume shop online, right? Me and my wallet should know better, but there it was – Romeo Gigli Cologne. The bottle looked kinda vintage, old-school fancy. “Ooh, maybe it’s something different,” I thought. Famous last words. Clicked buy before I could talk myself out of it. Surprise surprise, it arrived two days later in this basic cardboard box.

Cracking Open the Bottle
Got it home after work. Peeled off the plastic wrap – felt cheap, honestly – and pulled out the bottle. Okay, nice shape, heavy glass, dark juice inside. Took off the cap. Sprayed it right onto my wrist like I always do first. Sniffed immediately.
- First whiff: Whoa. Sharp. Like… lemon cleaning spray mixed with old paper? Seriously. Made my nose tickle. Not great, Bob.
- Let it sit for a minute: Okay, the lemon cleaner vibe backed off a little. Something kinda peppery came up. Like black pepper sprinkled on wet grass? Weird. Still not loving it.
- After like 15 minutes: Finally started smelling a bit smoother. Got some warm wood notes – maybe cedar? And something slightly sweet, kinda like dried herbs sitting in honey. Less offensive.
Wearing It For Real
Next morning, I actually wore it out. Sprayed it on my chest and neck before heading to grab coffee. Big mistake.
The Sillage Factor: Could smell it on myself constantly. It followed me around like a sad puppy. Not exactly strong, just… always there. That cedar-and-dry-herbs thing mostly, but sometimes that lemon cleaner ghost came back to haunt me.
Asking a Friend: Met my buddy Mike for coffee. Didn’t tell him I was testing something. He leans in to talk about the game last night and just stops mid-sentence. “Whoa,” he goes. “You smell… different.” Me: “Yeah?” Him: “Yeah. Kinda like… my grandma’s closet? But with, like, pepper?” Brutal. Accurate, but brutal.
The Long Haul: This stuff clung on for dear life. Like, 8 hours later I could still faintly smell that dried-out woody sweetness on my skin. I’ll give it that – it stays put. But did I want it to stay put? Nope.

My Final Take
Look, here’s the deal. Romeo Gigli Cologne? It’s not some crowd-pleasing freshie. Smells dated, kinda dusty. Starts off harsh with weird lemon/paper/pepper notes, settles into this dry woods and herbs vibe. Performance is strong – too strong, maybe. If you want to smell like an old Italian library meets a spice rack that hasn’t been used in a decade, maybe this is your jam. Me? I sprayed it twice and put the bottle way back in the cupboard. Probably never coming out again. Save your cash.
So there. That was my Tuesday adventure with a blind buy gone wrong.
