So yesterday I dug up my old Pinterest boards from 2014 because honestly? Summer outfits were way cooler before everything became beige. Figured I’d recreate those looks since trends always come back right?

The Pinterest rabbit hole
First I literally dumped all my summer clothes on the bed. Tank tops everywhere. Seriously though – why do I own 15 white tanks? Started matching stuff with 2014 screenshots and immediately noticed two things missing:
- Crop tops were EVERYWHERE but I tossed mine after that weird sunburn incident
- Forgot how much we all wore neon plastic jewelry that turned skin green
The mall disaster
Went hunting for high-waisted shorts – which apparently are unicorns now. Sales guy at Forever21 looked at me like I asked for dinosaur meat. Found ONE pair that fit like sausage casing. Pro tip: don’t trust size labels from a decade ago.
Then tried finding those floppy straw hats everyone wore. Found something that made me look like a garden gnome. Took selfies. Deleted selfies.
Home experiments
Discovered my maxi skirt still fits! Until I walked. Nearly ate pavement tripping on the hem. Cut six inches off with kitchen scissors – looked like Edward Scissorhands did it. Whatever though, Florida humidity makes everything look messy.
Mixed patterns like the blogs said. Polka dots + florals = looked like my grandma’s couch. Changed into stripes and floral – still couch vibes. Finally threw on all solid colors and felt human again.

What actually worked
- Denim jackets – still magic for AC-blasted restaurants
- Chambray shirts – tied over dresses = instant cool (hide sweat stains too)
- Those cheap plastic sandals? Still comfiest things I own
Ended up just ripping up an old band tee for a crop top. Paired with denim cutoffs and giant sunglasses. Actually felt kinda awesome – until the hem started unraveling at Starbucks. But hey, that’s vintage charm right?
