First day, I just sort of… went. Ended up in SoHo first, felt like a good starting point. And man, it was a scene right away. Such a mix of people. Comfort, but make it stylish – that seemed to be the vibe.

- Small bags were a big thing. Mostly crossbody, keeping hands free. Super practical.
Different Neighborhoods, Different Styles
Over the next couple of days, I made a point to explore different parts of the city. Took the subway over to Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Felt a bit more laid-back over there, but still really stylish. Maybe a bit more vintage influence, a few more unique, thrifted-looking pieces. Saw a lot of cool band tees, cutoff denim shorts that looked well-loved. The comfy shoes were still a constant, though. That never changed, no matter where I was.
What I really got a kick out of was how everyone just seemed to own their look. Didn’t matter if it was the latest trend or something totally offbeat they put together. They just wore it with this air of confidence. I remember seeing this one person in the West Village, just in a simple white t-shirt and jeans, but they had this amazing hat and some really interesting, chunky jewelry that just elevated the whole thing. So, after all that people-watching, what did I learn? Well, first off, New Yorkers are pretty smart dressers. They definitely dress for the heat, but they don’t want to look sloppy. It’s all about that effortless cool. Like they didn’t try too hard, but they still look sharp.
And the variety is just incredible. There isn’t one single “New York summer look.” It’s like a thousand different looks all happening at the same time, on the same street. I guess the main thing I came away with was how much personal expression comes through. People really aren’t afraid to wear what makes them feel good. It’s more about the attitude they bring to it than the clothes themselves. That, and a good pair of sneakers, apparently.
